No problem, we'll just import the drug from Egypt, right? Oh, yeah, Congress won't allow that.

If anyone is confused as to WHY our healthcare system is broken, look no further than this. The government CREATED these monopolies with its drug import bans etc, does anyone really believe they have any intention of "fixing" a system that they INTENTIONALLY broke in the first place?

This government would set your house on fire then expect you to thank them for selling you a $100,000 fire extinguisher.

I guess this is why some people tend to find medical advice and surgeries out of the country, and pay cash.

Makes sense to me.

Time and time again republicans have blocked
all attempts at ANY regulation of drug prices.
In Egypt prices are regulated. And Canada, England,
all of Europe, Russia pretty much all nations have
an FDA or drug board that approves drugs for sale
AND SETS maximum prices.
But Merica, Freedom, Free Market captialist Republicans
allow drug makers to set prices at whatever the market
will bear.
IT IS ILLLEGAL for medicare medicaid or any govt
orgaization to EVEN ask drug companies to negotiate
prices and Republicans have resisted EVERY attempt at
change for all of my adult life.

This thread is very on point, my Uncle went to go get his dental work done in Egypt and saved a boat load of cash rather than getting leeched by Americans.

This is a new drug, and the article is claiming a 90% cure rate within 3 months.

My issue is that a free market would never allow a business model like this to exist.. Then Obamacare just wants to pump more money into the insurance industry? Even if they managed to double the amount of money Americans spend on health insurance these govt-sponsored vultures would just start charging $168,000 instead.

Congress is playing dumb, acting like they don't understand economics. Gee, I wonder if health care would be more affordable if, y'know, it didn't cost as much? If we weren't overpaying by 8,400%? No one even talks about addressing the core problem with our system.

Here's an idea, why not do health screenings at airports? That way if people return with fewer diseases than they had when they left, the health corps can send them a bill!

We mustn't let our monopolists profits suffer by letting Americans get around paying the 8,400% markup for being American!

Re: Hepatitis C cure: $900 in Egypt, $84,000 in the U.S.. Robber barons much?
But if big brother is making sure everyone has affordable insurance then who cares if it costs $84,000 when it should/could only cost $900? It's all about having good insurance right? All those poor people in Egypt probably don't have insurance so they can't afford to pay insurance companies to make sure they get good health care as such they have to pay a price that is closer to a 'fair market price'.

American's get the privilege of making sure the good kind insurance and pharmaceutical executives (and others..) live the quality of life they deserve - all with the help of beloved selfless politicians. Besides that, it's only a 93.3% profit margin over the price they have to offer if for on the Egyptian market. And like I said, those poor Egyptians obviously don't get the privilege of making sure certain key individuals get to live a life that few can even dream of living. Can you really fault some special folks if they make a few shekels off the suffering of others? I mean really, it's a heck of a system that is set up. What they sell for $900 in one market they can get $84,000 for in another, and everyone is squabbling over how to get 'insurance' to pay the difference without even wondering why their is such a disparity.

Who says the education isn't working? Depends on what you think it was 'designed' to do I suppose.
