When The Real SHTF Occurs, What Should We Do With All The Dead Bodies In Our Neighborhood?

Are you thinking of having other people transporting the bodies, and other people digging the shallow holes?

I live in a rural area so I'm not too worried, few neighbors here and there, but if it came down to a fight it would be pretty easy to throw all the corpses in a house (downwind of course) and light it with a match. Houses are extremely flammable and work better than just pouring gasoline on bodies outside. A ready made funeral pyre so to speak.

Do you have a nearby golf course?

Give the bodies to the guy ringing a bell and yelling "Bring out your dead!"....he comes around twice a week...

In our area there would be no issue of fuel for burning, it would be wood and used motor oil in one of the many dry limestone quarries. The thing that gets me is even though it would be plenty easy to get the body to said place to burn in said way with a hand drawn cart. Someone has to do it. And you have no idea what kind of pathogens the body might be a vector for. I know I would not want any of my loved ones handling a strangers body. Holy cow that is a nightmare right there.

I think as I have said I found this to be a nightmare ( even with the hazmat gloves and masks I got a few days ago. You would be better served answer as others asked. What would you do?
And yes I have a hand cart And if need be could build another two in a day. Who the hell can't build a damn hand cart out of scrap laying around?

But be that as it may yes the issue would have to be addressed without a doubt in all areas in all their diversity.
From the rural that I am to the inner cities it would have to have an answer. Could the top of a multi story parking complex be used like a silent tower in the inner city? Or a drained pool and motor oil be used as a pit/Roman style crematorium? No matter what is used someone will have to take the bodies there. Rickshaw is likely to be the best answer to transport but again that is in fact exposing people.
I can tell you if tonight it came with out me having a minute more to get ready my answer would be in my boxes of surgical gloves, contractors bags, surgical masks and ductape. I would save the hazmat gloves for other things I and I would move the bodies myself rather than worry for my loved ones.

I would imagine the disposal would be similar to what my Grandmother described to me when she lived through the Spanish Flu Pandemic in Philadelphia in 1918.

A lot of her neighbors died. They were left in boxes on front porches and wagons came to collect them and then mass burials in fields occurred.

Even if things were in a state of chaos, that would be the 1st order of business.

Do-nothing urbanites as yourself indeed do well to ask all parties for advise upon this issue of corpse disposal after executing rampaging foragers and minorities.

1.) Form today or soon a community government and plan for corpse disposal.

2.) Identify and procure use of any available prospective burial or cremation sites.

3.) Research historic accounts of how this problem was handled, i.e. The French Revolution.

4.) Consult with the technical expertisse of currently operating mortuaries which may have recommendations for corpse disposal during times of resource deficiencies.

5.) Consult with local mental health providers who might be able to identify and preposition laborers with appropriate mental illness profiles to remain task oriented for prolonged efforts at corpse handling.

6.) Organize panty waiste people as yourselves to fabricate and provide the best personal protective equipment for the corpse handlers, as well as providing personal hygiene services for these dedicated and hard working corpse handlers.

7.) Force the communitie's high maintenance and babbling women to feed and house the corpse handlers.

Do not be weak about this.

Your grandmother lived within an intact economy and a functioning government. This discussion is about corpse disposal when both are gone, or at least minimal.

Do you understand what I am describing in brief for you?

There's no perfect option, but only options based on the situation and things at your disposal. In a situation that the bodies in your location are piling up slowly, due to starvation, general illness, etc, it may be feasible to deal with each body on an individual basis. This would make relocating the bodies down wind of your location, or digging individual graves an option.
If we are talking hundreds, or thousands of sudden deaths from fighting/war, natural disaster, etc, the bodies have to be dealt with en mass. Burial is not really an option here, UNLESS you are fortunate enough to have fuel and machinery available. Digging by hand is not exactly feasible in a mass die off scenario, because without a lot of available man power, the bodies will start decaying and become a health hazard, before this can be completed. If you have a well flowing river near by, drop the bodies in and let them float downstream. Just make sure the drop location is downstream of where you gather water. And I pity anyone downstream, that doesn't have a filtration system.
If this river missed your city, and you have neither machine or man power to deal with a mass die off, I hope you have plenty of matches. Cause fire is the only option. First, locate a house(s), or other burnable buildings, down wind of your location, and relocate the bodies into the buildings. If you have something like gasoline, oil, propane, or even natural gas at your disposal, it's your lucky day. But it would be smarter to save those for other uses. It's not hard to make a building burn. Remember, fire burns most efficiently upward. Lean things like couches and mattresses, up against the inner walls of the building, and light them at the bottom. Any thing else that is flammable, like wooden dressers or doors, can be added on top, so the fire burns hot and sustainable enough to send the building up in flames. From there, just pray the wind keeps blowing in your favor. But even if it doesn't, the smoke and stench of burnt corpses, will be gone much quicker, than if they were just let rot in the streets. This can also be dealt with by just avoiding affected areas, until the wind changes or the fire is finished.

Remember, you have relatives in the cities with the same potential problems. Perhaps you might take a few minutes to call them for discussion, or plan a solution some time with them over dinner.

This is what I was taught to control corpses in a hurry without digging equipment.
Use old tires to make a large pad. Put kindling into the tires. If you can spare it put some diesel fuel in a hand sprayer and a little in the tires. Stack a double layer of bodies. Put on a top layer of tires. Light a fire in the kindling and spray the flames with the sprayer. The fire will quickly become very intense and as long as bodies are thrown in the fire it will keep burning. I have made large burns this way that what on for weeks. So large the clouds would be effected by the up stream.

Actually I did say how they would occur. And no I do not actually have relatives in any cities. I will admit to having a few friends in cities. But I hardly think this would be something they would wish to talk about over dinner. Well I used to have one friend that would likely be fine with talking about this over dinner.

They would be hand carted to said dry limestone quarry ( of which there are 100's to choose from) where the plentiful amount of deadfall and brush would be utilized with old used motor oil ( 1,000's of gallons just hang out everywhere) and be burnt to a nice crispy germ free doneness.

Again in inner cities. Someone will need to have surgical gloves and masks as well as duct tape and contractors bags and move the bodies to either a place like the top of a parking complex for the vultures clean up ( a la silent towers of India) or a drained pool again with scrap wood and used motor oil to do the deed.

Really anyone that is prepped enough o not be the body on the step should have gloves masks bags and duct tape already in their supplies. They might have to build them a rickshaw but that is not a hard thing to do.

I'm guessing we just need to live near you (OP) the massive amounts of hot air you spout should remedy any problem. However, I suspect you yourself will be one of those smelly corpses, you seem much like a person who knows EVERYTHING, but can do NOTHING.

As horrifying as the thought of that many bodies would be that is a good plan, though I am also sure someone at the EPA just had a stroke reading it. I would switch in a SHTF type event to old oil in place of the fuel as I would not want to "waste" any of it. I live in a place with plenty of wood but tires would make for a longer burning fire in case of large number of bodies.

Oh and a very good ( though don't breath any of it)fire kindlen for this type of thing is old foam rubber. Found in call car seats couches ugly recliners everywhere and padded lawn furniture.
