Tuesday's blood moon comes right on time for the Jewish festival of Passover, which commemorates the ancient Israelites' exodus from slavery in Egypt. According to the Bible, God cast 10 plagues upon the Egyptians, the final plague being the death of the firstborn. The Israelites painted lamb's blood on their doorways so that this plague would pass over their homes.

Lunar eclipses are special to me, of course I have always had an interest in Astronomy. After the Leonid Meteor storm in 2000, I fell in line with it.

I can honestly say that 95% of the lunar eclipses are usually partial here in eastern US and 99.3% of the time it rains here for them...like it will this time. So if it is visible in your area enjoy it. ::hugs::

I had plans to set my alarm to see this here in Western North Carolina but strangely enough, we are supposed to get thundershowers that night. We have had perfectly clear weather for the past week and up to Monday night. This storm is set to come in Monday night and last through Tuesday night then back to all clear. It almost seems like someone doesn't want us to see this event.

1) probably does not know the first thing about the bible

The good news is that clear sky clock claims it will be clear during the eclipse at my observing site. It's often too optimistic though.

This is a great video with a simple explanation of the Blood moon…

If standing on the surface of the moon, the sun will be completely blocked out, but you would be able to see surrounding the earth, every sunrise and every sunset all at the same time….. That would be awesome to see.
