I am "I Love Panda Bears." Plus, for some weird reason, it posted the same video twice, instead of the two different videos that I tried to upload. Here are the videos: I guess GLP times you out if you take too long to write a forum post. Sorry for the inconvenience. |

I do remember these times! I am trying as hard as I can to give my 17 year-old daughter some optimism about the world, so I used google Earth and google Maps to show her where I lived as a child, in the multiple houses. Something she laughed so hard about was how I showed her that Kentucky Fried Chicken was very near my home. I could see it from my bedroom window when I was in the second grade. She thought it was funny how it was still there to show up on google maps and google Earth in 2014. (She knows about the economic down-turn and everything because she's a GLP'er like me! LOL!) After all, I was living in that house and looking at KFC back in the 1970's, and yet it's still there! Please, people, share your own stories of your childhood---AND SHOW YOUR CHILDREN OR YOUR GRAND-CHILDREN the stories of what you went through. My favorite memories from my childhood was listening to the older generations telling me about their own experiences. This is how we win back our lives! Teach your children and grand-children about how things USED TO BE! Show them the "Normalcy" of the way things used to be! |

And even if this is about the Bundy ranch and the turtles, talk about it anyways. This thread post on this forum is about remembering things. Go ahead and use it in order to express yourself. |

Do you have any nostalgic places that are close to your heart? My daughter was very interested in the places I showed her, so I realized more people out there might be interested in sharing beloved places from their own lifetimes. Please come back to this thread and post of your own fond memories! |

Teach your children and grand-children about how things USED TO BE! Show them the "Normalcy" of the way things used to be! Quoting: I Love Panda Bears The problem is OP, you cannot separate 'how things used to be' from where we are at today -as those two notions are intimately connected. Many of the conditions/circumstances of the past that you may wish to perceive as 'normalcy' played a role in contributing to the set of affairs that we find ourselves dealing with today. If we could magically revert back to the way things were 20, 30, 40 years ago, do you know what would eventually happen? We would again find ourselves facing the same sorry state of affairs that we do today - because that is the path things were headed down. It sometimes takes several decades for trends to play out and for the repercussions of certain ways of living to materialize. It is much easier to look back upon the past with nostaligia when the present seems more threatening and worse. Also worth noting, your state of awareness has certainly changed over the course of 20-25 years, so your memories and perception of that time period would reflect a more sheltered/innocent state of awareness that was appropriate for your level of development/maturity at that stage of your life. You see things differently now than you did in your youth & early adulthood - what has changed the most over that time is probably 'you'. I would think if you could take your present day awareness with you back in time, you would still harbor the impression of things being ****ed up, you know? Not intentionally trying to be a debbie downer here. I just feel strongly that all we have is the present moment to work with and that the 'past' and 'future' are creations of our mind that we mold/shape in various ways. If society is going to improve itself we cannot revert back to recent methods, practices, and ways of living because they would lead us back to where we find ourselves today (IMHO). |
