Just this week, A wild cougar attacked a 7 year old boy, his mother saw the boys head in the cougar's mouth and reacted.

She came out of her house with a dish towel in her hands and began to frantically hit the cougar with it. The cougar then stopped, let go of the boys tuque, and looked at her. they made eye contact and what the cougar saw in the mothers eyes was enough. He saw motherly love...and knew better then to mess with that kind of love :D the cougar simply left the scene.

If it would of been my kid I would of reacted the same way and I would of gotten the same response. Animals detect these things and know.
