Keep Smiling User ID: 72261 New Zealand 04/16/2014 12:58 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The Weather Channel states that the ferry hit a reef during a thick fog ( per RT). Quoting: LisaDiane [link to www.weather.com] However, this still does not explain the burn injuries. Surely if they hit a reef the passengers would have said there was a loud thumping noise followed by them being thrown around. No one mentions being thrown around by a crash. Another tweet said something about a bang. Explosion in the engine room? Burns? What about the sophisticated gear used to pilot around these hazards in fog? Also a route that must be travelled at least daily. You would think the crew would have some idea where all the reefs are. I was puzzled by the "reef" remark, too. I don't know much about shipwrecks I have to say, but a reef would mean shallow water and a grounding? Initially I thought the photos looked like it had grounded but is it usual in a grounding for the ship to totally flip over in calm seas and submerge? Shouldn't it be sitting on the shallow reef? Its all a bit odd. |

LisaDiane User ID: 54605369 United States 04/16/2014 01:03 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This does NOT sound good. This was copied from MSN.com: Passenger Kim Seong-mok, speaking from a nearby island after his rescue, told YTN that he was "certain" people were trapped inside the ship as water quickly filled up inside and the severe tilt of the ferry kept them from reaching the exits. Some people yelled at those who couldn't get out, urging them to break windows. Kim said that after having breakfast he felt the ferry tilt and then heard it crash into something. He said the ferry operator made an announcement asking that passengers wait and not move from their places. Kim said he didn't hear any announcement telling passengers to escape. The water temperature in the area was about 12 degrees Celsius, cold enough to cause signs of hypothermia after about 90 minutes or 2 hours, according to an emergency official who spoke on condition of anonymity citing department rules LisaDiane |

LisaDiane User ID: 54605369 United States 04/16/2014 01:39 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I recalled that date earlier. My heart goes out to these families. My daughter just concluded teaching English as a second language for the last three years in South Korea. Therefore I have prayed for this nations' safety from North Korea for the past three years. I really hope that North Korea did not play a part in the demise of this ship through an underwater mine or something else. There is so much tension between these two nations.. it scares me. I do pray for the best for these teenagers and teachers. FYI I am going to bed, but not without saying more special prayers for these passengers and the families waiting on the shore to hear the status of their loved ones. LisaDiane |
