The 90's were great as a kid and looking back I would habe loved it just as much as an adult. It seems in the U.S. we had reached a sort of equilibrium. Technology was evolved just enough to experience he benefits of fast communication but no so much that it completely absorbed our lives. The best part was the internet was so open and new that it was truly an experience to log on each time. Music was less appealing than the 80's but still had a defining aura to it that really made the 90's what it was. NSYNC and Backstreet Boys, the bands most avoided in the 90s, outperform most pop songs I hear on the radio today. Music from that time still had some soul to it, originality. Today everything seems like it is a souless fabrication that caters to what sells rather than what inspires and I hate it every day. Aliens, conspiracy theories and the sort seemed much more appealing back then when technology didn't make us such cynical assholes. The Phoenix Lights, Area 51, Roswell. All of it had mystery to it. I regret not being old enough to listen to Art Bell on AM radio talk about those mysteries. I have the privilege today through the internet and thank the gods that I can feel goosebumps turning off the lights in my room and just listening to that broadcast. Things now are always NWO, Muslim, or Jesus on constant repeat and have been since 2001. I always daydreamed of living on a farm in one of the New England states stuck in that time period. Working a good job, affording a rustic and wholesome lifestyle, listening to great tunes in a F-150 coming back from the small town and listening to late night AM at the end of the day. And perhaps I am the only one, but the only thing that constantly reminds me of the 90s is the sun. It seems my best memories were always basked in sunlight so when I feel nostalgic I'll get the feeling of once again living under a "90s sun". |

I loved the 80's best...the 90's were very good... 2000 and on has been a steady nosedive into the shitter Exactly. 2000 to present worst years so far for me and others I know. Example, same job in 1999 paid more than it does now in 2014 to start. Meanwhile the cost of living quadrupled since then. It will only get worst as time goes on. |

I loved the great concerts from the 70s where people were smoking in the audience and having more fun it seems. I recently saw The Who and was amused at all the bald heads and grey hair and the amount of younger people who were there. It just seemed so sterile with the perfectly clear air and everybody just sitting during the show. I never listened to my parent's music they grew up with. Is there any music being recorded now they will play decades from now like they do from the 60s through 80s? |

The 90's brought us Bill Clinton and the beginning of political correctness. Quoting: juju PC was already in long before the 90's. As nice as the 80's may have been, it was not a perfect decade, not even close. Drugs, violent crime, and teen pregnancy were rampant during the 80's for example. I think the biggest reason many Americans look back on those times fondly is because they were more economically stable. They were far from perfect, but your money could go further, ESPECIALLY WITH GASOLINE PRICES in this 80's/90's vs now. One's age also factors in a lot of the time. While not set in stone, the older a person is the older their "good days" are much of the time. Personally, I try not to look back too much on the past, because those times are gone and can never be visited again. You are in the here and now in 2014, and can only go forward with time. |

I didn't say the 80's were perfect but that decade beat the hell out of the 90's. Growing up in the 60's and 70's people didn't have to watch every word that came out of their mouths. People were not so easily offended about any darn thing. Of course we have to go forward and most of us have. We do have to look back though because like Santayana said, Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." |
