Google announced in January that it was developing a smart contact lens that could continually monitor blood glucose levels of Type 2 diabetics. It has been announced that Google is also working to create a contact lens with an integrated camera that would help people with visual disabilities.

A small camera will be embedded out of the way of the pupil so it will not obstruct vision. Blinking activates the sensor for the camera. An advantage to using this lens instead of something like Google Glass is that the camera is able to follow the eye’s precise movement. Even the smallest sideways glance will still allow the camera to face the point of interest. The data collected by the camera can be processed to recognize a variety of properties including faces, motion, color, light, and certain objects.

A 16-year-old girl who once tweeted, "The fact that suicide is an actual option for some people is what really breaks my heart," took her own life Monday night after posting a farewell video on YouTube.

"I’m doing literally the whole world a favor," Maddie Yates said at the end of the 3-minute video, according to a transcript posted by BuzzFeed. "But I love you, and I’m sorry. And I really, really love you."


The student at Louisville's Male High School explains on-camera that she'd been treated for anxiety and depression and been prescribed Prozac. "But I’ve been like this for so long, and there’s still a chance that the worst day might still be coming. And I just don’t see how this is a bad idea."

A Texas high school student has filed suit against her school district, claiming she was punished for refusing to recite the Mexican national anthem and pledge of allegiance as part of a Spanish class assignment.

Brenda Brinsdon, then 15, told TheBlaze exclusively in 2011 that students in her intermediate Spanish class were instructed to recite the Mexican anthem and pledge individually in front of their peers at Achieve Early College High School in McAllen, Texas. Brinsdon refused, telling TheBlaze at the time that “Reciting pledges to Mexico and being loyal to it has nothing to do with learning Spanish.” She also provided TheBlaze with video she recorded of students taking part in the assignment.

Stop dressing so tacky for church.

DeBonville has heard about the “come as you are” approach to dressing down for Sunday service, but he says the Sabbath is getting too sloppy.

When he scans the pews of churches, DeBonville sees rows of people dressed in their Sunday worst. They saunter into church in baggy shorts, flip-flop sandals, tennis shoes and grubby T-shirts. Some even slide into the pews carrying coffee in plastic foam containers as if they’re going to Starbucks.

“It’s like some people decided to stop mowing the lawn and then decided to come to church,” says DeBonville, rector at the Church of the Good Shepard in Massachusetts. “No one dresses up for church anymore.”

Easter is supposed to be about the renewal of hope, but when asked if the spread of sloppy Sabbath can get any worse, DeBonville sounds gloomy. Yoga pants in the pews, pajamas near the altar – will everyone soon start showing up at church dressed like “the Dude” in the film, “The Big Lebowski.”

Nothing would surprise DeBonville anymore.

“There’s growing casualness everywhere,” he says. “I don’t know if it can get much worse.”

I am not religious per se, although I do believe there is some kind of unified energy or something greater.

All of my staff, and the staff of others in my role, all have what must be ADD. They cannot stay on a task long enough to finish it, forget endless amounts of detail and always are trying to juggle shifts and come in late or leave early in pursuit or because of some recreational event like concerts or festivals or I don't even know what. It's like they are grown up infants. They cannot do even light manual labor without endless breaks and complaining and end up with a sore back. Even the guys who look tall and tough are absolute wimps after ten minutes of basic work. They all claim they have ADD or some condition that apparently gives them a free pass in their minds to screw the pooch all day. Do not even get me started on the mindless texting and Facebooking. I have told them all I will fire the next person I see zoned out texting on a phone. I work in a semi office / light labour environment. Not a tough job for these guys but you need to stay somewhat busy. Everyone is constantly zoned out and blanking staring into a phone. I wish there was workplace cell phone jammers allowed to take away these endless sources of distraction. And it doesn't phase anybody when important jobs aren't done that could affect the company. There is zero personal responsibility. These people are all early to mid twenties and live at home or have six roommates and no gumption in life beyond texting and hanging out giggling. Today's youth are useless. Skinny jean wearing eunuchs. I would take an old worker over ten youths today.

Nearly a dozen states have quietly signed onto a plan to effectively ditch the Electoral College and instead, award the White House to the candidate that wins the popular vote.
