People see this and then wonder why they should cut back. Here is some quick math.

A car getting 30mpg using 35,609 gallons of gas goes 1,068,270 miles. To put that in perspective, the distance from the earth to the moon is 238,855 miles. You could make 2.5 round trips from the earth to the moon.

Another way of looking at it is the number of miles you drive per year. The average American drives 15,000 miles a year. That is enough gas at 30 mpg for the next 71 years. As people don't start driving until nearly 16, this is more gas than your typical American will consume in a lifetime.
