The North's main newspaper, the Rodong Sinmun, said that a war could break out if the rival Koreas seek unification without making concessions in their political systems.


"A war would reduce South Korea to ashes and make it return to the stone age," the newspaper said.

Russia's deputy PM arrives in N. Korea

SEOUL, April 28 (Yonhap) -- Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Trutnev arrived in Pyongyang on Monday, North Korea's state news agency reported, in the latest in a series of exchange visits of high-level officials between the two countries

The North's official Korean Central News Agency did not give any further details on the agenda of the trip in a one-sentence dispatch.

The statement described Park in explicit and crude terms, calling her "an immature girl" and her remarks "filthy water."

The spokesman also claimed that there is no hope for the future of inter-Korean relations as long as Park remains in power, saying her remarks amounted to a declaration of war.

"Obama's visit to South Korea showed that the United States must be confronted not with words but only with power, and that our judgment and determination that there should be a final settlement through an all-out nuclear battle were completely correct," the statement said.

The increased activity could have greater repercussions as it comes ahead of U.S. President Barack Obama's official two-day visit to Seoul that starts Friday.

"A lot of activity is currently being seen, so our forces are keeping in mind the possibility that North Korea may suddenly conduct a nuclear test in a short period of time, or as in previous cases, deceive us with what appears to be a nuclear test," Kim Min-seok, the spokesman for Seoul's defense ministry, said in a press briefing.

North Korea appears to be ready to carry out a nuclear test at any time if it wishes, and the communist nation has recently made remarks claiming to be preparing something "unimaginable" for its enemies and "something big" before April 30, the spokesman added.
