Everyone who thinks that the NBA is out of line and that Sterling's right to freedom of speech has been violated is an idiot. Period.

First off, the NBA is a business. Sterling works for them. He is worth $1.9 billion. He is one of the elite that you people on this website claim to hate so bad. People like him are what is wrong with the world. He said that white Jews are 100% above black Jews and that he wants his girlfriend to block all black people from her Instagram and that he doesn't want any of them at his games. Say what you want, but if that kind of stuff is leaked, and the NBA DIDN'T ban him for life and fine him, it would destroy not only that organization, but the entire NBA. An employee for any other company would be treated the same way. And you're upset that he was fined $2.5 million? He has $2 billion.

His right to freedom of speech has not been violated. He wasn't locked up. He was fired. Just like if my job found out that I said I hate working with all the blacks in the office, they'd fire me. If a black owner had said racist shit about white people everybody in this thread who is suggesting Sterling's rights were violated would be screaming and staging protests for the black owner to be removed. It's really disappointing to see people who claim to support liberty be so selective in choosing who deserves liberty and who doesn't. What we saw today was a business head, the commissioner, doing what he has the legal ability to do to one of his employers. Taking a stand that an employer shouldn't have the ability to act against an unruly employee is akin to supporting unions.

TL;DR? Suggesting the owner should not be punished is the same argument as suggesting unions should have more power over their companies.

the owner made that much of a profit from signing that one player and you're saying his 100 million contract is overpaying him? you don't apparently understand how much money a sports franchise can gain ...and it all comes solely from those players.
