Re: Why did Jesus speak in parables?
These are The Final Moments....

If God Has Called your heart; time to answer HIM...

Failure to take action is still failure.

Can you Trust God Fully and Completely with every aspect of your life? Time to Tell HIM so!

Soon, The Age Of Faith will be concluded.
No more Coming Unto The Father by The Way Which Jesus Gave HIS Life To Enable...

Once Rev 14:7 occurs, you will either be In-HIM or on your own and apart from HIM...

Not important to figure out what God Want's or purpose of The Scriptures. What matters, if you Love HIM, is manifesting your heart Unto HIM. Talk means nothing, it is action that matters. The ten or fifteen minutes it might take to make your surrender Unto The Father will change your life. The KNOWING comes afterward and is Enabled By HIM.

From Ezekiel 36:
26. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
27. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

"Marvel not that I say unto you, YE Must Be Born-Again!" John 3:7

Matthew 13:10
And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? 11He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. 12For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath. 13Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.

14And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:

In other words, these are parables giving teachings of knowledge that the lay man isn't really or able to understand, so the layman gets a nice parable story, and the advanced disciple gets the true teachings hidden in the parable.

By hidden I don't mean a secret code or something, but rather just multiple levels of knowledge in the same wording, based on understanding and context.

So in conclusion, Christianity as the general people understand it is not what Christ was actually the advanced knowledge Jesus was actually teaching.

And so Christianity is not what most people think it is.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 56481214

It was so that prophecy could be fulfilled. It was prophesied that the masses would reject their Messiah. Now if they saw and understood who he was, the masses would not have rejected him. As true prophecy can not fail, it was set up to be proven true. So that they could convert later on, after his death, if they chose to.

Kind of missing The Whole Point.
Leaving out verse 15...

"This peoples hearts are Waxed Gross"
Blocked...

Unable to Hear/See with their hearts, they seek with their intellect.

These people (Christians) want to understand before Trusting HIM. Their hearts are wrong. They are of the many.

Few choose to make their surrender...

Don't Love God enough to Trust HIM Fully?
Who then, really, is HE to you???

Re: Why did Jesus speak in parables?
Jesus is not God. It is plain he says it is God expressing through him. Spirit expressing itself through form, in this case the man called Jesus. Of course this to is a parable.

John 14:10 Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and ...

Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. ... The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me. ... I am speaking, I am not speaking from myself, but my Father who dwells within me, .... Son; and also of the personal distinction there is between them; for nothing with ...

John 14:10 Dont you believe that I am in the Father,
The words that I tell you, I speak not from myself; but the Father living in me .... for we have all sinned; but when he would disturb Christ, he found nothing sinful ... listened to the words of life, and seldom spoke a word (only John 16:17 John 16:29 ). .... What a brightness does this throw over the next clause, "ye shall live also!

No one comes to God except through the indwelling spirit that resides within all men.

No one comes to the Father except through Me. ... He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, 'Show us the Father'? ... And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” ... talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me. Again remember this is the spirit expressing itself through the man Jesus.

Check out this theory of why he spoke in parables. Was he telling us about his life during the silent years?

Re: Why did Jesus speak in parables?
because he was speaking to a group that wouldn't comprehend what he was talking about

for example....if you went to a amazon village and told them about computers, smartphones, microwave food....do you think they would understand? or would you dumb your stories down for their benefit.

Re: Why did Jesus speak in parables?
The parables hide deeper mysteries for those with wisdom. Why do Christians worship Jesus, did Jesus worship himself? Jesus wouldn't of been an owner of a book called the Bible.

Because he is a parable.
 Quoting: Psych

That's actually a really insightful comment.

His entire life is a parable. A metaphor for awakening, for enlightenment. Everything he went through mirrors the path to these things. "The Word made flesh" is quite literally what his story is. We've lost the myth and the mystery, though, so most of us no longer "get it."

I suppose the "most of us" would be the people to whom Jesuz was referring to as only being able to handle parables, though, and not the actual truth.

Anyone know?
 Quoting: Mister Serious

Very simply, it's because of how low the consciousness was of the people of 2000 years ago. That was the best way to teach people back then. What is really sad, is the modern day Christian churches belief system is based upon these simple teachings. Jesus had a whole different set of teachings for his apostles and closest followers, which differs greatly from the modern day Christian beliefs. Gnostic Christianity of the first 300 years, for a great part, held these knowledge teachings from Jesus until the church declared most of the teachings as heretical, as Jesus true teachings set people free. Lord knows the church can't control people if Jesus' true knowledge teachings became the guiding rod for Christianity.

Re: Why did Jesus speak in parables?
In the same way that God's light blinds us, and so He (Christ) serves as a medium of sorts, so does the Wisdom of God.

That those who connected to Him through the Spirit would have it translated by the Holy Spirit for them. It should be noted that they aren't 'puzzles' beyond understanding-that isn't what I'm saying.

I'm saying that holding a seashell up to your ear and hearing the ocean isn't the same thing as hearing it's roar a hundred miles offshore.

Simple.

People prefer listening to stories rather than lectures.

Jesus spoke in parables because this was the style of Greco-Roman satirical and romantic plays. Now check out Plutarch's and Josephus' other plays and you will find the same style and even the same stories as in the New Testament.
