Anonymous Coward User ID: 47353221 United States 05/01/2014 07:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ok. Just checked with other half. All undelivered mail and packages go to a "dead letter" facility in Atlanta, GA, where the letter/package is opened to see if an address is inside, so the delivery can either be completed to the recipient or returned to the sender. If no information is found inside you are SOL. Unless either you or the sender files a report. The sender can fill out a form that describes the packaging and contents as accurately as possible; where posted, when posted, etc. The request form is then emailed to the Atlanta facility, where an attempt is made to locate based on the information in the request. I did not check to see if such a form is available at the USPS website. |

The particular letter I am worried about contains loads of forwarded mail all from the same address in the UK. So, I hope we get it back at some point soon... :) x:hf: |

If a carrier does not deliver a piece of mail, it is brought back to the post office or P&DC (Processing and Distribution Center) where it will eventually make it to its destination. If you're trying to track mail and it's not updating beyond a certain location, that's because not all mail is scanned, even though it should be. Not all mailhandlers are given the handheld scanners, so if the tracking info doesn't seem to be updating, that's probably why. The USPS takes a while, but they are pretty good about getting you your stuff... eventually. Hope this helped. |
