Oh PLEASE. "Woe is me, I still make six figures per year working for the pharmacy industrial complex!" Shut your trap.

As someone with a chronic staph infection in his sinuses, getting you jerks to simply do what I ask is like pulling teeth with a pair of tweezers: IMPOSSIBLE. Six years in, and I still can't get the medication I've researched myself and know I need. You just refuse to give me the right stuff, you'd rather prescribe me fluoroquin-based "antibiotics" which are known to destroy bodies and were pulled from the market three times because they are essentially deadly poison. You'd rather insist I get a CT scan just so you can "make sure" I have an infection even though I've had four different cultures conducted and they all came up positive for staph aureus. I'm able to control my reflexes and manually suck globs of staph out of my sinuses and spit them onto a petri dish for you and you still insist on bombarding me with cancer and poison, just to drain me of more money and time. Never, EVER do you treat the CAUSE, you just look at the symptom... and you try to create more symptoms.

You look down your nose at us for daring to try to have any say in what we put in our bodies. I'm certain you personally have ruined lives with your careless misdiagnoses. I'm certain you personally have killed people as a result of your selfishness and intellectual laziness. You're all the same.

And now, you try to get US to feel sorry for YOU... LOL.

If your life as a hospital employee truly is horrible now because of Obamacare, which I find hard to believe, then consider it karma. You deserve to suffer for using your position of authority and perceived wisdom to blindly push whatever dangerous untested drugs onto us Big Daddy Pharma tells you to, trying to treat the symptoms instead of the cause, giving us unnecessary cancer-causing CT scans just to work towards paying off the price you paid for the CT scanner, etc.

You are devils in angel's clothing.

Nurses have no authority or control over anything, asshat.

We simply are responsible for too many patients at once and shackled with too many rules and regulations. Therefore no matter how hard we try, we fail because we are set up to do so. And I do not make a 6 figure salary. I make the same hourly as a restaurant manager whether I have 10 patients or 20, whether or not they are critically ill or easy, whether or not is the weekend or holidays. And I pay out the ass for malpractice insurance. And we now work every weekend and holiday with no extra pay because of the cutting of staffing levels.

The financial managers of the hospitals are the ones who make money off of you, not the practioners. I don't get to charge extra when I have more patients or they are extra difficult medically.

Yep
pretty stupid person there

As a former ICU nurse; you are correct

one reason I got out of nursing

Nurses are treated like garbage in most places and told to follow the rules; period

You show them you can educate people to do better

and they react

by writing you up and giving you warnings your job is in jepardy if you continue to try and

educate the public

The administration tells you it is the '''doctors''' job to educate

Funny thing ; that

They don't educate because they want REPEAT patients and higher and higher incomes

Yep

The system ; like ALL other amerikan systems is a scam!!

The whole system is set up to fail. It begins with the patient who doesn't take control of their life style by eating right and exercising.
 Quoting: Terrebonne

It even advises the patient to eat eactly the wrong diet so as to make yet more diabetics

The nurses see the end result of an entire system designed to feed the furnace.

Seems to me that the population as a whole is going insane with their demands and the costs are going wayyyyyyy up to try to meet their demands, while at the same time, the healthy working class is going wayyyyyy down. No jobs. No future. What the health insurance lobbyists and health insurance companies have devised with aca is an attempt to force the remaining young healthy population that still have jobs to pay for fatty sitting in the hospital ordering dominos pizza while he gets an insulin drip.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 57660598

You are right and the whole thing is insane. The families stalk, abuse and harass the staff. They don't want to understand that each doc and nurse has an unmanageable number of patients each. But they each want "service". They don't care if your septic patient his crashing out and you have about 2 minutes to get him sorted out. They want what they want first or they get nasty and complain about the level of "service" you are giving them.
 Quoting: op 7191620

The wait staff at any restaurant has the same complaints. Depending where they work, they make more or less than you, too.

All I am saying that if highly educated health care professionals were allowed to charge like plumbers and babysitters do and were not forced to work extra without any pay so often YOU HEALTH CARE COSTS WOULD BE A HELL OF A LOT HIGHER. Hows about a little gratitude.

You know how much the hospitals save by forcing RNs into unpaid, mandatory overtime? Those savings keep your medical bills lower.

If you're on salary, them's the breaks. It's no different in any other industry.

You want to talk about hard work? Try a draw against commission pay scale in blue collar fields.

Oh please. Blue collar guys don't have life and death responsibility and don't work 15 hours straight without a sip of water or any kind of break.

If I make a mistake in applying chemicals, people may very well die. If an electrician fucks up, people can die. If a framer fucks up, people can die. If a plumber fucks up on certain aspects, people can die slowly. The life and death responsibility is not as direct as yours, to be sure, but it is still there, and the importance to society no less.

Btw, just so you don't have to climb down from your high horse to hear it, I'll remind you that you work inside, in a climate controlled facility.

nursing is a tough job, but yes, the people who build our buildings and roads and bridges and harvest our food have tough jobs as well.

As a nurse, though, you see people when they are very vulnerable. It is on your mind frequently that a mistake can cause suffering or death not decades in the future, but in the next few hours.

Those who do direct nursing care have to want to do it

There is no middle ground.

Nuring is one of the toughest jobs out there...toughest

Those who never did bedside nursing can know it is '''tough''''

but have NO idea of the magnitude of

just HOW tough it is....

A nurse is treated like garbage by the doctors, the administration, the families and in many cases the patients

the nurse must know MORE than the doctor in most cases

but is NEVER given the license or recognition of this

The nurse must know more than a doctor

for example

at 3 in the morning when the doctor is going to cuss her or him out on the phone for calling at 3 am

the nurse better have all her ducks in a row and know the patient needs

something more that is NOT in the current list of meds and the patients condition is changing for the worse....

Threads like this makes nursing seem like people should "thank it less"-lol.

Let's face it, NOBODY knows EXACTLY what ANY job is REALLY like unless they've spent a good amount of time doing it.

It sounds like a lot of nurses live in a self-centered bubble maybe because they work long hours but there's alot of tough jobs with long hours that pose risks to others and all in all those people don't seem as uppity as some nurses. You guys need to get a grip.

In the 1860s; during the civil war ; nurses were looked at as angles

the are angels!!!

When a culture disrespects those who save lives and willing to go the extra

this is a sign of the fall of empire

BTW, how many meds are you on every day? I hope you aren't abusing the system by pilfering choice drugs to support your own addiction like so many nurses and doctors are known to be doing these days.

Just so you know, the most special nurses I've ever encountered are Hospice Nurses. Maybe you should try that out for a while. It might do you some good and give you proper perspective.

I'M the irresponsible one for taking care of my own health.

And I'M the burden on society because I don't carry medical insurance, I spend the money on my health instead.

Just more upside down nonsensical attitudes in the topsy-turvy world we live in.

nursing is a tough job, but yes, the people who build our buildings and roads and bridges and harvest our food have tough jobs as well.

As a nurse, though, you see people when they are very vulnerable. It is on your mind frequently that a mistake can cause suffering or death not decades in the future, but in the next few hours.

...as with some blue collar jobs, too that have been posted before. I know you all want to think you're all so special, but so are other people and their jobs.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 54980830

Nurses are special

they are above and beyond special

it takes a special person to be one of these

you know NOT of what you speak

go shadow a direct care ICU or med /surg nurse for a 12 hour shift and see

just how special they are

or a pediatric cancer ward or burn ward nurse

or even an ER nurse

You are an IDIOT
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19051875

You seem angry and spiteful. You're losing me on the "special" part.

 Quoting: Sunset Voulebard

No meds

I never see doctor

not even natural paths

I am as healthy as a moose!!!

I just love people who like to go in and bully

this world is so full of nasty bullies!!!!

In the 1860's angels weren't known for their uppity attitude and loathing of the people they must help and weren't known as complainers.

2014, angels loath the people they were assigned to help, do their work be-grudgingly and complain all the while telling the wind that it has no place in Gods hand or the earth that it isn't as valuable to those humans.

My, how the angels have changed.

Nurses are people too

just like you

You even sit down and talk to the complainer?? ask them what is wrong??
Why do they complain so much?

They might like it that someone is actually paying attention to them and taking the time to

just sit and listen...

You might find

they are grossly over worked and under paid...

What I find is this society is becoming more and more nasty

as the years go by

How do you know in 1860 those civil war nurses didn't complain??

were you there??

People are people and I would bet in 1860 there were complainers

especially the rich women who had to help out

I thought it was just politicians but we now know there are 2 groups that have no grasp of reality and are totally disconnected with the outside world.

Congratulations on proving how apathetic you are about anyone else but yourselves by showing your complete ignorance of the value that other people besides yourselves offer to this world.

Re: Why our hospitals are close to total failure/modern day patients/ obamacare
All I am saying that if highly educated health care professionals were allowed to charge like plumbers and babysitters do and were not forced to work extra without any pay so often YOU HEALTH CARE COSTS WOULD BE A HELL OF A LOT HIGHER. Hows about a little gratitude.

You know how much the hospitals save by forcing RNs into unpaid, mandatory overtime? Those savings keep your medical bills lower.
 Quoting: OP 7191620

If you're on salary, them's the breaks. It's no different in any other industry.

You want to talk about hard work? Try a draw against commission pay scale in blue collar fields.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 56842571

Oh please. Blue collar guys don't have life and death responsibility and don't work 15 hours straight without a sip of water or any kind of break.
 Quoting: OP 7191620

If I make a mistake in applying chemicals, people may very well die. If an electrician fucks up, people can die. If a framer fucks up, people can die. If a plumber fucks up on certain aspects, people can die slowly. The life and death responsibility is not as direct as yours, to be sure, but it is still there, and the importance to society no less.

Btw, just so you don't have to climb down from your high horse to hear it, I'll remind you that you work inside, in a climate controlled facility.
