Sounds like that movie: "Heaven can wait".

A man's guardian angel sees his client get hit by a bus. Assuming he's dead, he takes his soul to the pearly gates. But the guardian angel was mistaken; the guy was only supposed to be injured.
When he attempts to return his soul to his body, they find out he's already been cremated. So they go about looking a new body for him to inhabit.

A chick-flick, but not too bad for an early 80's movie.
