I've not seen many machines infected that are using avast (Smaller user base I guess), however, AVG is notoriously crap. Microsoft security essentials isn't too bad, although i've seen machines infected while running this too. The best way to remove infections I find is using the free version of malwarebytes. I've not tried the paid version but if I was seriously considering a decent antivirus subscription, this is the one I would go for. Failing that hitmanpro. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 57692986 Switched to Linux for online and haven't had to format the game rig ever since. Did you have to rebuild your rig when you went linux? My little bro sent me a link about it that showed a crazy setup was needed for gaming on linux. It was a steam link if that helps. Or maybe it was a HUGE hard drive needed and i use SSD for everything so it skeered me away. Last Edited by Evil Mechanic on 05/04/2014 10:54 AM |

Ive tried AVG in the past but for some reason i remember not liking it. I need something that wont run crap in the background since my PC is also my gaming rig. Quoting: Evil Mechanic So... What do you use? Malwarebytes, it's free and works. Adaware also free. advast also free. Webroot is not to bad if you feel you must pay for something. I also run a commodo firewall which helps keep out the bugs and is free. You can dl that at cnet.com. If you have windows 7 and up it comes with windows defender which is crap, but it's antivirus. |
NervousAndJerky User ID: 30856702 United States 05/04/2014 11:09 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I use webroot. [link to www.webroot.com] I also run Malwarebyte [link to www.malwarebytes.org (secure)] and ccleaner. [link to www.piriform.com (secure)] regularly. I game with this machine as well as surf the web. Does not slow down from the webroot, and the malwarebytes and ccleaner run fairly fast. The webroot is a paid software package. But the Malwarebytes and CCleaner are available for free. |

I really don't recommend if you don't want your computer slowing down during critical play time. Damn. You're the first person to say that about it. Could it have been something else eating up resources? I was really hoping this was the one for me. you need to turn off the Cloud feature so it doesn't constantly run updates in the background |
