Small towns & counties are sometimes worse than large cities. There is less attention on them. Plus they tend to hire either the local yocal or cops that couldn't get a job in the big city. And the small departments don't train as well. I wrote about one good cop, of the few good ones I know, but could tell you dozens of stories about the bad ones that far out number the good.

I lived in Sumter for 8 years.

Sumter has a crime rate just like any other town, dumbasses.

There are good people around & some of you can't stand it's a cop.

Sumter also houses the largest AFB in America - SHAW AFB.

Hats off to this cop for giving a shit and reaching out to a family in need.

Maybe, just maybe if more "Adults" start helping more struggling kids, the kids may have a better chance at becoming something positive instead of a statistic that some of you love to despise.

rape is about average for the nation murder as well but assault 4 time the national average wonder how many are police on citizen?? well we know that with that one major at least 8.. 5th highest crime rate out of 338 similiar metro areas

I survived w/o a scratch.

I knew many cops there, and not one gave
that "abusive" impression or acted above the law.

Pick up the persons papers that blew all over the road after a gust of wind.

Support the opposing teams youngsters in the sports your kids are involved in.

Make a habit of being happy on a regular basis, for goodness sake!

This town makes Sumter look like a boy scout jamboree. Seriously. I often comment when we have tornado watches that the world would be a bit safer and better off if the town were wiped on the map.

I would happily collect the insurance on my house to see it and would never lose a minutes sleep. Unfortunately the same thing that makes me want to get out is what keeps me from selling my home at a reasonable price. No one wants to live in a crime wave. I don't dare say where I live , but suffice it to say this place has made international news several times for racially motivated hate crimes and criminal coverups of murders and other serious crimes. A prerequisite for being in politics is corruption, it's a DANGEROUS AND STRESSFUL place to live where the few good people that are unfortunate enough to live here are ruthlessly preyed upon by an organized criminal element, with 'law enforcement' RIGHT IN THE CENTER OF IT ALL.

Our biggest industry is criminal justice, behind logging for IP and oil. All of the oil hands are addicted to speed and the log truck drivers as well. They spend half their time working and the other half in jail, and their whole lives on probation or parole. They get 'em both ways, by selling the crap to them and then putting them on parole or probation and charging fees for their 'services'. It's disgusting. it makes one despise government and especially cops.

I am convinced many counties in the south are just as bad as this one or even worst.

So the cop supporters wil just have to pardon me if I call bullshit on this 'selfless act of charity' by this 'kind police officer'. i just don't buy it. Sorry

A Sumter PD officer also rescued a criminal he was chasing this winter after the criminal's car submerged into an old mill pond. That made news all around as well. This isn't propaganda. There are some damn fine deputies and officers in this county that do so much more for the youth that never gets recognized on a daily basis. I see it all the time around here. There are good people in this small community.

Let's just call it healthy skepticism, i know a horseshit propaganda story when i hear it.It's like when people say "it's not all jews that are money grubbing cretins that would sell their soul for a shekel", but the reality is that is a feel good delusion. Police are much more likely to be violent felons than an ordinary citizen , and that is simply not acceptable and needs to change, and until it does the pressure has to stay on the ones that hire them to do the right thing and make a police force of protectors, not abusers

I could be wrong and maybe that isn't fair, but it just smells of public relations manipulation when you start thinking about the details. It's a cops job to respond to domestic disturbances but it is also a cops job to remain uninvolved personally and let the proper agencies respond top neglect. He's not supposed to get his name on the internet for giving little boys toys and beds.This is just a PD blowing it's own horn IMO
