I just hate when out of argument brainwash religoustard start quoting. :jesussaved1: Quoting: Korats01 Where do you get your wisdom from, a Cracker Jack's box? It seems to me that many anti-religious people believe they will just figure out truth as they go ... And to some degree, that is true. But the basis for that understanding can only come from man, from the anti-philosophy / anti-religion / anti-research crowd. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 8284282 Ha,ha. I'm supposed to answer that in one post! Maybe a scripture quote to avoid having to speak will help. Not! Will you speak for Truth? Who or what will you get it from? |
SingleCellOrganism User ID: 10887564 United States 05/14/2014 12:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | True, but OP makes a good point: Too many people just post a scripture and then move on. If the scripture isn't clear, which many aren't, then context and implication should be explained. Last Edited by Quadriped on 05/14/2014 12:16 PM |

Has it occurred to you that you might be looking at a skewed sample of postings? So, how does quoting scripture help that problem? I agree with you, but what does quoting scripture solve? Similar to quoting your own thoughts, which is you prefer. But you are not the only brain in universe |

Usually we get a wall of unrelated scripture quotations that no one reads or cares about. |

Logic is reasoning or assessment conducted according to strict principles Using logic, we reason and we assess facts, figures, or whatever to reach a conclusion. Using logic, you can take 5 falsehoods and using your logic, can produce a false conclusion. Using logic, you can take 5 lies and come to a wrong outcome. Scripture replaces your falsehoods and lies. Logic is the process whereby I think, but scripture are the facts that I use in instead of the lies.. |

For instance . . . The Hobbit pp108 line 4 clearly states; Then the dwarves themselves brought forth harps and instruments regained from the hoard, and made music to soften his mood; We of course would have different factions condemning those who choose to use the OT (original text, British or US) and the youth would be attracted to the Movie version of the book with all the additional material, perhaps this could be the New Testament. Different sects would arise due and infighting would occur. It could be any book, this is just an example. Maybe the Joy of Cooking, the scripts to Magnum TV series, Manual to a '57 Chevy. |

Quoting: SingleCellOrganism But to answer your question: IF it's the word of God, then it is the source of wisdom and knowledge. E.G. our thoughts are nonsense compared to the thoughts of God. But regardless, my first point is what you are getting at, I believe. Also note: Jesus spoke in parable, because it 'was not granted' for some to know the secrets God was revealing: He (Jesus) said: “To YOU it is granted to understand the sacred secrets of the kingdom of God, but for the rest it is in illustrations, in order that, though looking, they may look in vain and, though hearing, they may not get the meaning. Be careful. Please notice that Jesus ONLY quoted scripture when tempted by Satan. ONLY. The serpent TRIES to get you to speak. Just as happened in the garden One of the parables shows that words are debt. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 8284282 Do you know with 100% certainty ? Do you know that Scripture says that after you die you will be judged by God according to what you have done in this life, good or bad? If you don't know with 100% certainty what happens after you die, why risk it? Just because you react in fear of what happens to you does not mean we all have to live in such fear. You have been programmed only one thing; god will punish you if you don't conform and believe whatever you are told to believe. Scripture in an old history book is not some special "word of a god" when there have been thousands of gods over the history and prehistory of mankind. Right now you can choose to suck on one teat. But there are several teats on the cow. Why swear the your milk is the only true milk that comes from that cow? You were given a brain and your eternal soul has a personality of its own. If anything is judged in this eternal game we are playing...it is that you were true to yourself and proclaimed your thinking and lived outside the boxes the "shepherds" want to keep you in. I see following the leader as a weakness of the individual and the inability to live outside the assigned box. Conformity is easy...but all slides point downhill. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 57933207 United States 05/14/2014 01:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Scripture is LOGIC… but I understand why you feel that way. Try reading a Geneva Bible (earlier than KJV and comes w helpful notes) from beginning to end… it all makes sense… OP, some people like to quote scripture as a tag, just a thought… but I admit, when I see a wall of just scripture I don't usually read it all… But there is something profound about making a point using secular logic and then adding the scriptural logic… Like ever wonder why the vatican banned the Bible from 500Ad to 1500AD? might one reason have been because it clearly says and implies repeatedly that the earth is ROUND when they were trying to say it was flat? He sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers, he stretcheth out ye heavens, as a curtain, and spreadeth them out, as a tent to dwell in. Isaiah 40:22 It also implies repeatedly that purgatory and eternal torture in hell is not Biblical at a time when they were making lots of bling on people paying for their sins…and it also says you can't pay money for sins! “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Mathew 10:28 "No one comes to the Father but through me." |
