Why do Christians speak by quoting scripture? Can't they think for themselves?

Because the Bible has the answer for pretty much everything.

It seems to me that many anti-religious people believe they will just figure out truth as they go ...

And to some degree, that is true.

But the basis for that understanding can only come from man, from the anti-philosophy / anti-religion / anti-research crowd.

So, how does quoting scripture help that problem? I agree with you, but what does quoting scripture solve?

True, but OP makes a good point:

Too many people just post a scripture and then move on.

If the scripture isn't clear, which many aren't, then context and implication should be explained.

Books are preferred tools of self-education, Bible incl. Use them

if they could think they would know the bible is a stupid fairy tale. so no they are to stupid to think on their own.

Logic is reasoning or assessment conducted according to strict principles
Using logic, we reason and we assess facts, figures, or whatever to reach a conclusion.

Using logic, you can take 5 falsehoods and using your logic, can produce a false conclusion.

Using logic, you can take 5 lies and come to a wrong outcome.

Scripture replaces your falsehoods and lies. Logic is the process whereby I think, but scripture are the facts that I use in instead of the lies..

Do you know that Scripture says that after you die you will be judged by God according to what you have done in this life, good or bad?

We should all choose one book and whenever we reply to a post quotes from that book citing page number,and verse.

We of course would have different factions condemning those who choose to use the OT (original text, British or US) and the youth would be attracted to the Movie version of the book with all the additional material, perhaps this could be the New Testament. Different sects would arise due and infighting would occur.

It could be any book, this is just an example. Maybe the Joy of Cooking, the scripts to Magnum TV series, Manual to a '57 Chevy.

Scripture in an old history book is not some special "word of a god" when there have been thousands of gods over the history and prehistory of mankind.

You were given a brain and your eternal soul has a personality of its own. If anything is judged in this eternal game we are playing...it is that you were true to yourself and proclaimed your thinking and lived outside the boxes the "shepherds" want to keep you in.

I see following the leader as a weakness of the individual and the inability to live outside the assigned box. Conformity is easy...but all slides point downhill.

It also implies repeatedly that purgatory and eternal torture in hell is not Biblical at a time when they were making lots of bling on people paying for their sins…and it also says you can't pay money for sins!
