This seems WAY too young, but what do you think? Are fifteen year olds mature enough to make a decision about tattoos? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28808190 Of course 15 is too young. I wouldn't let my 17 year old daughter get one, not that she would want to. I think that is the question: Why does she want tattoos? To me it's evident that the parent(s) are not instilling the best morals in their daughter and she's beginning to express herself in the wrong ways (i.e. destroying her body for lack of respect for it). We know what that leads to. |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 28808190 United States 05/16/2014 02:18 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Thanks for the replies, everyone. The obvious answer seems to be HELL YES, way too young for tattoos. The girl is a family relation and we're trying to explain to her mother WHY tattoos at this age are a bad idea. Mom consents to these tattoos, and is into tattoo culture as well. I have no problem with this--tattoos or tattoo culture in general--but I feel I have to say something about her daughter. I know it not my place, but do you just let it go? |

This "wrong way" of self-expression is being endorsed by her mother, who has had her own demons to fight. What would you say to lead someone to self-respect? |

In 80 years all of our skin (hers included) will be rotting in the dirt. Fact is the Earth abounds with people who make unwise decisions, but in the end it really matters precious little. She's not hurting anyone but herself - and as a cultural norm, probably not even herself. Only a few generations back, a 15 year old could be a married woman with children. Biologically, she's a woman every bit as an 18 year old male is a man. Still young, dumb, and inexperienced, but it all begins somewhere. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28808190 Tattoos are basically jail bait, popularized for example by the so called "music industry," that has specialized in filling private prisons for profit. Thread: Remember this: "The Secret Meeting that Changed Rap Music and Destroyed a Generation" "With an eye made quiet by the power of harmony and the deep power of joy, we see into the life of things." William Wordsworth And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe—the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God. John F. Kennedy Inaugural Address Lincoln's economic advisor Henry C. Carey explained the universal issue in his 1851 Harmony of Interests: "Two systems are before the world.... One looks to pauperism, ignorance, depopulation, and barbarism; the other to increasing wealth, comfort, intelligence, combination of action, and civilization. One looks towards universal war; the other towards universal peace. One is the English system; the other ... the American system, for ... elevating while equalizing the condition of man throughout the world." "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." - Albert Einstein |

But I will say this, do I think government or religious leaders that should not exist in any capacity whatsoever should determine if a teenager gets a tattoo, versus a joint decision between them and parents? Hell No! The Devil tries to convince everyone he doesn't exist. The state tries to convince everyone they cannot resist. Do not go quietly into the good night. Rage Rage against the dying light! |

Or may be a pimp. Were all three tats applied by the same individual? |

In Texas, Washington and Oregon, they can be tattooed with parental consent. Meaning a parent has to sign a consent form. It is no ones business, it is between the child and the parent only. |

Quoting: saviour12631 That leaves us with 47 states where a licensed tattoo artist would be breaking the law. The problem is they don't just break one law. The same people who tattoo underage kids illegally, reuse needles, sell crack and accept oral sex as payment. A tattoo can be removed with a few laser treatments, hepatitis is harder to get rid of. |

Wow such a cheerful outlook on life and society here on GLP today. LMAO It sounds like most people here are afraid of people that have tattoos, which cracks me up completely. Do not judge a book by it cover. I know 100's of bikers that are some of the best people in this world, have fought battles next to them in the war and trust them with my children's lives. I guess you will never know what your missing due to your own miss-perceptions. Personally, I would never sign for my children to have a tattoo when they are under 18, but to each their own. I would never fault anyone for letting their own 15 year old have one. LOL The things people complain about. Seriously, get a life of your own. LOL |

Mainstream dentists also give people hepatitis by not cleaning tools. Its a real problem in the community, and one that should not be ignored in the name of solidarity: [link to www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Among these individuals without traditional risk factors, HCV-positive patients remained significantly more likely to have a history of one or more tattoos after adjustment for age, sex, and race/ethnicity (OR, 5.17; 95% CI, 3.75-7.11; P < 0.001). Conclusion: Tattooing is associated with HCV infection, even among those without traditional HCV risk factors such as IDU and blood transfusion prior to 1992. |

My state is the same. My GF let her daughter get tats at 15. That's between them. If she were my daughter I wouldn't have allowed it, but I have no right to dictate to her what she can allow her daughter to do. No one else should have that right, either. They don't share my views and I can accept that. She's a great girl and not a creepy lil skanker, and that's what matters to me. The ink didn't corrupt her. If she regrets it later in life, that's her problem, not mine. |
