OP that's just the nature of the beast with XP. I had mine packed away and forgotten about for about 3+ years and it was days updating itself with a dial up modem before it became useful to me again. The thing I miss most with XP is MSE. Now I surf bareback. Fear God and Dread Nought. |

Go into control panel, windows update , update history. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 57571939 You can see when all updates were downloaded, the patch kb number which shows when the patch was released so you should be able to figure out what happened. Oh crap! I forgot all about that! (Hangs head in embarrassment.) Thanks! |

Haha so many concerned logical replies, isn't this a conspiracy forum? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 56117320 My theory is that 1/2 of what you think are updates are not updates from an external source but updates from memory installed on your hardware you are not aware of, set to go off periodically. Probably to ensure that critical updates are maintained across platforms to allow access. Or The internet has generated spontaneous consciousness and has the ability to locate software that hasn't been updated to execute critical updates so that software can be captured and forced to run subroutines for the AI. . I LOVE IT!!!!! I hand clean every file in every operating system on my computer.... I delete delete delete only shot myself in thefoot once or twice in 10 years... if it wasn't on my computer on the date it came home with me, I delete it.... this computer is vista, Ihave an xp that has been dormant since oct/nov 2013...mightjust fire itup ... btw, started a job which required online commute... after getting on thier site, my bios became corrupted...think it was from them... but it has beento my advantage... when I take out thebattery and run , the date gets screwed up...I let it stay that way...then explorer gives me all these 'certificate' warnings because my computer is 8 years in the past, however, it stops running the programs that monitor key strokes...when I correctthe bios, the pesky stuff starts up again...especially on GLP. so, some stuff is a blessing. maybe bios date change stop 'installation' of updates? wortha try |

Ive always thought it very odd that a manufacturer cant create a product that works for some time without Updates every damn day or so. I began to imagine that these so called Updates might be packets of information about your activities, sent back to the servers that use the Update to keep track of users. What do you think? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 57897505 Thiswas established years ago...I actually have a clipping from the newspaper(2001 or so)from the SACRAmento bee stating that every document created in word is given an identifying number that is tracked... it has come out in other news since then...like a GLP commentor already stated on this thread... back doors, trap doors, attic doors, in doors, out doors...you name it, we been being watched from the beginning. they know who you are and how you ride. |

Perhaps the updates had downloaded prior to you decommissions / storing the unit. Perhaps it was waiting to a date to install, but storing the computer interrupted that. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 39829800 Then, when it came out of storage, it was ready to install (date had passed) Perhaps that exact scenario happened too all three computers? Are you joking or just stupid? What would be the odds of that same exact thing happening to two computers and the other hard drive? what are the odds of magical update unicorns delivering the updates by rainbow to a disconnected computer? or whatever wacky scenario you think happend. |
