Perhaps you can answer your question yourself when I give you some information.

The moon orbits Earth in about 29.5 days.
Thus the moon rises and sets about 50 minutes later each day.

Make an Excell table with the rise and set times - and ..... surprise!

He's an amateur astronomer from New Zealand. If you know your geography Australia and New Zealand are next to each other.
Are you saying that the Moon can be seen from anywhere "down under" but specifically not from Australia?

I did ask the question clearly. Australia is NOT New Zeland.

BTW, is it just a coincidence that a user from New Zeland joins the discussion?

What's so specific about the Australian Moon that someone from NZ can't answer?
Does the Italian moon look very different from the Swiss or Austrian Moon?

The reason you haven't seen it set is because it does so 3 hours after sunrise:
Wellington moonset on the 18th : 10:21
Wellington sunrise on the 18th : 07:25

My thoughts exactly! !!! Its very strange.

My 18 month old has been pointing it out - so it has been hard to not notice. And the nights have been so bright.
No I dont drink or smoke green stuff. I have limited knowledge of astronomy however. Just does not seem right. Not usual anyway.

You have an 18 month old who knows about moonset? Impressive!

As I pointed out here before the Moon doesn't set until 3 hours after sunrise. That's why you and your baby don't notice it.
It's very normal, the only one who believes that the moon is never up at the same time as the sun is Ducky. And he thinks the Australian Moon is very different from the NZ one.

Even non-astronomer Ducks can look up the time of sun and Moon rise and set on the internet.

The sun rose at 06:42 and the Moon set at 09:42 on the 18th.
Last time I checked 9-6=3, which means that the Moon set 3 hours after sunrise.
