I'll be the first to admit that the heavily processed food that covers a lot of grocery store acreage is denatured, but people get carried away with this notion that modern food is POISON.

Guess what? You likely eat many times better than your relatives a generation ago. You are far less likely to get poisoned by your food - as in directly poisoned, you die tomorrow kind of poisoned. You are far less likely to contract a serious disease. You are far less likely to suffer from malnutrition. You probably have better teeth, healthier bones and much better skin than you would have had a generation ago.

In short, what you eat is probably healthier today than it has been at any time in human history. Certainly, the breadth of different things you can eat is wider than ever, and there is clear evidence that a broad diet is a healthier diet.

Yes, you can purposefully eat like crap - the options are there and plenty of people choose that route - but if you want to eat healthy, you can eat better now than 99% of humanity before you.

Re: What is this myth that there was this golden age of "healthy" food?
We raised out own food never got food poisoning. We had a cow and drank milk and made real butter, until the margarine came in people were healthier. Lot of dry beans and peas in the winter and sometimes summer, potatoes, cabbage, greens, carrots, turnips chicken, bacon, sausage, pork chops gravy biscuits and white corn bread hot from the oven! Meat on Sundays. Sweets not much. Fish we caught, turtles we caught, buzzard we left, squirrels we caught, rabbits and turkeys. In other words real food. People were healthier.
