Computer scram device?
Need some computer tech type imput....I got a few commercial magnetic locks from a job..basically they are electromagnets...I don't know the gauss rating on them, but they rated for 2,000lbs...when energized, they easily support 2 persons from the ceiling...I have access to ones rated to 6 tons also...

Now...lets say the magnets are mounted over the hard drive in a computer...when energized, you think its powerful enough to erase all the data?

I'm gonna rig one in a sacrificial computer to test when I get time...

Re: Computer scram device?
Actually I suspect they will be much damage...but thats OK...the drive will probably get ripped off the rails and the platters deformed also...I want to know if any data could be recoverable...

Re: Computer scram device?
I'm not 100% correct but hard drives or any such disc storage device are nothing but micro-scopic magnetic pins, correlating to either a one or a zero. With a magnet as strong as that you should fry it no prob.

In elementry school, we used to use strong magnets to erase floppys and 3x5s...payback's a biatch!

Re: Computer scram device?
Wrap your hard drive in C4 or RDX and run detcord. Only way to be sure your computer is scrambled.
