State: FDA study finds Alaska fish safe from Fukushima radiation

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has found that Alaska seafood is safe from Fukushima radiation, but a citizen’s group plans to conduct a separate study of the water in lower Cook Inlet using a crowdsource funding site.

“The (FDA) results confirm information from federal, state and international agencies that seafood in the North Pacific and Alaska waters poses no radiation related health concerns to those who consume it,” said a statement released by state health and environmental officials.

The FDA review was based on a sampling plan developed by the departments of Environmental Conservation and Health and Social Services, the agencies said. Analyzed were several Alaska fish species harvested by commercial, sport and subsistence fishermen that migrate from the western Pacific Ocean.

Still have serious reservations, as cook inlet salmon has completely different migratory habits than bristol bay salmon.

This, on the surface appears to be pretty thorough, some information is tough to discern, but it does a really good job at addressing their processes.

Here is a tidbit of information that might explain why so many have kept quite about Fukushima.

The Obama appointee to the NRC, William Magwood, used to work for TEPCO as a consultant prior to joining the NRC.

Now, they may not mean much to some, but it may explain why Obama has said little about Fukushima.

The US Regulatory Commission is in bed with TEPCO.

SNIP

As reported in October, Bill Magwood, an Obama appointee, spent many years in the Bush administration’s Department of Energy as director of the Office of Nuclear Energy. During that time, Magwood was alleged to have had regular private meetings with Marvin Fertel, then-Senior Vice President and now President and CEO of the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI), the lobbying arm of the nuclear power industry. (Not, coincidently, Fertel is quoted in several of this week’s stories hostile to Greg Jaczko.) FOIA requests were filed for records of those meetings, but Magwood’s email correspondence and calendars were destroyed just one month after he left the DOE in 2005.

After leaving the Bush administration, Magwood formed a consulting firm, Advanced Energy Strategies, which had as clients many of the nuclear power companies he dealt with at the Department of Energy and is now tasked with regulating as a commissioner at the NRC. One of those clients, as was uncovered this week by The Huffington Post’s Ryan Grim, was TEPCO, the Japanese power consortium that officially still owns and operates the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear facility. And that’s not all:

Magwood’s recent client list makes up a who’s who of Japanese power and nuclear companies, and included CLSA Japan Equities Division, the Federation of Electrical Power Companies in Japan (FEPC), IBT Corporation, Marubeni Corporation, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, RW Beck, Sumitomo Corporation and the Japan Atomic Energy Agency, which was roundly criticized for its response to the crisis.

It is Jaczko’s use of his authority to push for new rules based on the post-Fukushima Near-Term Task Force (NTTF) recommendations that reportedly triggered the discord that motivated Issa’s current...

William Magwood, US Nuclear Regulatory Commission: I think people have to be realistic how difficult this is, how long it’s going to take. During my visit to Japan this week, people have asked me from time to time, “Are there technologies in the US that can help solve this problem?” The reality is there is no technology that exists anywhere to solve this problem.

Magwood created a coup which pushed Jaczko out and McFarlane then came in.

After watching some of Jaczko's videos on Fukushima, I can see why he had to go. He actually wanted to do better and prevent another Fukushima.

I am still researching all of this.

Great find Mountain Woman!!!

Roberts and Jaczko seem upfront, honest, and sincere.
Interesting how this is just now getting out (a full 1 year after it was published).

He talks about a station black-out even that leads to a release of radiation. - Interesting.

SNIP

Jaczko spoke to IEEE Spectrum following his participation in an anti-nuclear event in New York City at which speakers discussed the lessons that could be learned from the Fukushima Daiichi accident. Speakers also included former Japanese prime minister Naoto Kan, who headed the government during the Fukushima accident, and Ralph Nader. Several speakers talked about New York's Indian Point nuclear power station, and Jaczko expressed his personal opinion that the plant should be shut down.

Jaczko argued that more Fukushima-type accidents are inevitable if the world continues to rely on the current types of nuclear fission reactors, and he believes that society will not accept nuclear power on that condition. "For nuclear power plants to be considered safe, they should not produce accidents like this," he said. "By 'should not' I don’t mean that they have a low probability, but simply that they should not be able to produce accidents like this [at all]. That is what the public has said quite clearly. That is what we need as a new safety standard for nuclear power going forward."

not sure i remember the steps in order

but i think

1. I charge the cells with the audio files i already have saved

2. I hook them up to a basic antenna or array

3. sit back and watch my rad levels drop to constant low

This is if it works and I've done it properly

Fingers crossed, as nothing else is working....

my averages are posted weekly to about 3-4 rad sites... when i remember.. but they are always a steady µ0.17-0.18

lows of 0.14... and yea winter which here is 18 D C

if the equipment works it should drop to around 0.08

i have photos of the lab equipment the finished last year which i will post as an article one day... *cough....

and as i remember i think john pre-charged my cells already, but i have to check...
