It would seem that nothing is sacred when it comes to the NSA. Israel would be lowest on my list of possibilities, but I would guess it's a non-close-ally country like a Russia or China.

China, being as tech savvy as they are, would probably have been too complicated of a target. Russia seems like easy picking for such large sweeping intelligence gathering, but you'd hope the cold war would have taught a contrary lesson.

My guess, which is why I think the implications of this are huge, is that this mystery country is a "first world" country, as opposed to Kenya, Mexico, the Philippines, or the tiny little banking islands of the Bahamas. All of which are able to be conceptualized as dissimilar (speaking from US.)

If a Germany, Russia, England, Japan, Canada, or a United States popped up on the list, a lot of demanding voices would start shouting I believe.

Good news is we won't have to wait long to find out, apparently.

That implies Snowden knew where he would be taking refuge beforehand, which would only lend to the argument of collusion.

Deaths - as of an internal strife, or even maybe civil war breaking out in that country because the government might have information about it (a lot of U.S. allies knew about the already revealed secret service hubs in their countries)
Or deaths as of a fear of a hostile attack to an other country?

This whole VA scandal shit may be overshadowing things a bit, but if Obama comes out with a list that justifies, in any way, the killing of Americans with drones, it will certainly be a test.

As lazy and numb as most Americans hve become, when someone tells them that they could now do something that would get a Hell Fire missile pinned to them, surely something will register.

This might be when we finally witness the failing of incrementalism.
