Definition of alcoholic and binge drinker?
I see where .gov and other recent studies have conlcuded that if you drink more than 4 drinks within a 24 hour period, and within 30 days, you are a bing drinker. I find that hard to comprehend, because I'll drink 3-4 or more depending on the day, of beers, especially when it is hot outside or the work is grueling (weekend home repairs, etc.), but usually within 12 hours, etc.

I wonder how they came about calculating 4 drinks per day is binge drinking...

Was thinking the same thing recently....4 beers is barely a buzz and that's in an hour or two. I think the gov't has incentive to label everyone with a "problem" so they can restrict firearm ownership and eventually force medicate under Obamcare.

I can see that. However, 4 beers in one day = binge drinking? I also think it depends on the circumstances, no? for example, you're out partying vs you are in your back yard replacing the transmission or engine, or building a shed, and having some cold ones on a hot day...

Re: Definition of alcoholic and binge drinker?
best info I ever heard from an alcoholic -- that watching people leave drinks not finished was absolute torture, such as ordering a cocktail before dinner and then when the food comes just switching to wine with the meal and leaving your cocktail unfinished - same goes for Beer, a true alcohlic ALWAYS finishes a beer, whereas someone who is not could easily pass up that last warm swig.

Someone who drinks more in a day than you do?

I'm just finishing my 12th "1664" tube, and shortly will be crashing.

Re: Definition of alcoholic and binge drinker?
I read something a long time ago describing people who have 6 beers a day are heavy drinkers. An alcoholic is someone who is addicted to alcohol. Alcoholism doesn't mean you drink every day, rather that it causes you problems with your behavior.

To some people binges are one night of excessive drinking. To others binges are days, weeks, months and even years of excessive drinking without stopping. I don't know how 4 drinks can be called a binge; to some 4 drinks is just a social outing or an end to a stressful day.

Alcohol is an extremely addictive drug. Even moderate drinking causes changes in the way you think, your beliefs, morals and so forth. Extreme drinking causes psychotic episodes where one does not remember functioning yet acts without consciousness (blackouts). If you think you have a problem with alcohol you are probably right. If someone in your family thinks you have a problem with alcohol they are probably right. If the police/court systems think you have a problem with alcohol they are probably right.
