If not put them in a baggie and crush them with something like a rolling pin.

Get in your car and go to a store.
Buy a coffee grinder.

You don't want fine sand particles, because then the water will no flow through as easily.

why not just buy a cheap coffee grinder... 10-20 bux.

I tried that - NOT a good idea.

The blender idea might work.

No mortar and pestle here - and no time to make them.

I'll get a coffee grinder some time this weekend but I need coffee NOW! If the blender doesn't work, then its a baggie and a hammer.

Maybe there are more ideas.

I lived with a beautiful and resourceful Inuit girl for a while. She decided to take the beans, wrap them in a cloth and pulverize them with a meat tenderizing hammer when we ran out of ground coffee.

I sure did love that girl and you wouldn't believe how well she could strip every last scrap of meat off a deer carcass.

Wrap the coffee in a towel and use a rolling pin or a wine bottle to crush it, I do this when the power is out to make french press.

Perfect! Now I just need to go outside and see if I can get a girl like her.

I do the coffee bean thang but my grinder started smoking one morning so I had ta get the hammer out and wrap just enough coffee in a dish towel and beat the shit out of them.
