You are missing the entire picture on this one. You're comparing a situation where someone merely did something you did not agree with that did not adversely affect you in ANY unreasonable manner nor cause any loss to person or property to a situation where armed terrorists are breaking into your house to steal your ability to defend yourself and your family at gunpoint. THINK! It's not illegal.. yet..

You state you were only protecting 'your family,' yet isn't that the excuse used time and time again for more gun control? How many times have we heard, "Think of the children! We need to pass common sense laws now!"

You're using the same tactics in an attempt to validate your opinion on what constitutes common sense car control.

We all have to share the same roads. Your actions were no better than the aggressive driver's. Your choices further aggravated an already tense situation and both of you are lucky it did not lead to an accident or physical altercation.

I highly doubt anything you say, you were playing along with the same type of "road raging asshole" that you are complaining about. By doing something other than your normal commute, you were assisting that driver to become a bigger threat to others on the road.

You may have also caused an impede in the flow of traffic and possibly tailgating. If a cop had seen you do that, you may have gotten a ticket or two. Learn how to be a good offensive driver, not a douche that is a danger to yourself and everyone else around.

I want to end this thread by saying that while I believe my side of the story has some merit, I was in the wrong.

In cases as this, it's best to assume that people are generally good, and are simply rushing due to some emergency or very important situation. I wouldn't want to block someone trying to get to a bathroom, or rescue a loved one who is sick.

That is the point, and I understand/agree. Right lane it is if i'm not in a rush myself due to an emergency.

I will say this: People who tailgate and weave in and out are not always dying or having a diarrhea attack. Nonetheless, I have no way of knowing if i'm dealing with an asshole or an emergency.

Thank you all for this intervention. I feel exhausted and smarter for having been trained by the GLP traffic committee tonight.

OP if you think aggressive driving is bad, you shouldn't do it yourself:

The problem is that "people" have varying levels of driving skills and vehicle performance. Just because your car is slow and/or you drive slow does not mean that someone else going faster or moving to get around and away from you is aggressive. Tailgating happens because of people going slow in the fast lane causing the traffic to condense as those in the rear seek to move up. Normally people prefer to just tuck in and wait for an opportunity, but to prevent unsafe and frequent darting into a space that is needed for them to stop suddenly would cause them to hit the car coming into the lane. It's much easier to maintain tabs on the one subject that is already in front of you than to have to deal with random asshats darting into spaces too small for their cars. OP also admittedly did this with provocative intent. Oddly it's circular and people doing shit to intentionally piss others off are assholes. It's better to be polite and let them pass if they need to get there that fast.

I used to be on the other end of the spectrum and only though of myself in these situations as well, but as you grow up and learn the value of community, friends and love you will understand this. Don't try understanding it now because you won't and will either get mad at yourself for not understanding, or getting mad at others for not acknowledging that you understand. The trick in this is not to get mad...
