I apologize to everyone for disappearing. Was not my intention. I think the reality of everything started sinking in.

It's been almost two months now since dx. The first month was spent inpatient with my daughter and looking back that was just a whirlwind of information.

I had to take time to digest everything that has been going on, as well as to adjust to our new "normal".

It is so wonderful that you came up with this thread!!!

Be strong with this cross of pain and sickness. The rivers deep and the banks are wide. I hope that you sail into calm waters, and find peace. You shine a light on the path some must walk and I thank you for that!! I can offer no medical advice
but I'm sure that there is a special place in Heaven for you and the multitudes that suffer.

Thanking you again

Sorry Ive not been around I was in the hospital. I'm humbled that you found me to be an inspiration for this thread. To understand what it is that we go through is knowing that we must pick up the cross of suffering that we bear and carry it for better or worse too whatever end. I'm going to start a Chronic Pain support group here in my community, I am hoping that this is the path i am chosen to do. God bless you and yours and all that suffer with Chronic debilitating illness.

Re: Support thread for those with cancer, terminal illness, or any life altering physical ailment. For caregivers as well
After reading this thread last night:

Thread: Hit the end of my rope, need some hope.

I felt there was a need/want for a thread for those of us who are seriously ill, caring for a loved one, or those whose health has changed their way of life.

I have seen in random threads that there are more of us that are fighting and I would like to see a thread where we can support others and get support in return, good news, bad news, whatever.

I am trying to include all. This thread can be a place to vent, share treatment options, cry, tell stories, etc.

There's also those of us who don't have a lot of support from family or friends who need us.

I'll start:

I have Stage IV melanoma, terminal. I am in the phase of care which is supposed to give me comfort and keep me free from pain as there is no cure for melanoma.

I started taking chemo meds which have just been approved by the FDA a few months ago. They helped to shrink my brain tumors and eradicate most of the lesions in my brain but they were making me feel terrible. So much so I had to go into the hospital 2 weeks ago.

Doctors advised I stop them or just take one at night..still on the fence as to whether I want to go back on them..quality of life vs quantity.

Then last week I had severe pain in my right flank and wound up at ER with internal bleeding, had to have 4 blood transfusions.

I wont go into extreme detail, just want us to be able to share with each other. Hope I didn't muck this up too much.
 Quoting: geminilion

Oh Gem I am only seeing this thread for the first time. I remember a few months ago I was thinking about you and wondering how you were doing. I've always enjoyed your from the heart posts and honesty.

I read the last post you wrote about hospice. And wondering if/when you decide to go with it.

I have experience working in hospice and know that miracles do happen.

Love and healing thoughts.

luvbump

And Simple - had no idea you needed to go in for surgery until reading this. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow - coming thru it with flying colors.

Re: Support thread for those with cancer, terminal illness, or any life altering physical ailment. For caregivers as well
My mom has been free of cancer for the last seven years. She had bile duct cancer previously. 2 weeks ago she had an mri for the pain in her back but a few spots where found on one of her lungs. She's a heavy smoker and will probably smoke to the end of her days. I took her the other day to have the spots scanned by a PET machine to see if they were active but the results have not come back yet. I talked to her and she does not seem nervous or anxious and if I know her she'll fight it to the end.

What I didnt like was that dick doctor. He was very casual and too confident about how to proceed if the spots are active cancer. Mom didnt like him either so I expect she's going to go to another doctor.

Not sure what's been updated here in terms of Joannie's health, but I spoke to her son last night, who was exhausted after saying he's been up the previous night and all day yesterday helping her... They had to go back to the hospital yesterday.

I will give update soon when I talk to her son again.

Fun Fact for the Week: “Jingle bells” was composed in 1857, and not for Christmas – it was meant to be a Thanksgiving song.

Trying to bring GLP together. I'm still collecting flags from posters all over the world. Thread: Official "Flags from around the world" thread. Hoping to get posts from all countries that frequent GLP.
