Support thread for those with cancer, terminal illness, or any life altering physical ailment. For caregivers as well
After reading this thread last night:

Thread: Hit the end of my rope, need some hope.

I felt there was a need/want for a thread for those of us who are seriously ill, caring for a loved one, or those whose health has changed their way of life.

I have seen in random threads that there are more of us that are fighting and I would like to see a thread where we can support others and get support in return, good news, bad news, whatever.

I am trying to include all. This thread can be a place to vent, share treatment options, cry, tell stories, etc.

There's also those of us who don't have a lot of support from family or friends who need us.

I'll start:

I have Stage IV melanoma, terminal. I am in the phase of care which is supposed to give me comfort and keep me free from pain as there is no cure for melanoma.

I started taking chemo meds which have just been approved by the FDA a few months ago. They helped to shrink my brain tumors and eradicate most of the lesions in my brain but they were making me feel terrible. So much so I had to go into the hospital 2 weeks ago.

Doctors advised I stop them or just take one at night..still on the fence as to whether I want to go back on them..quality of life vs quantity.

Then last week I had severe pain in my right flank and wound up at ER with internal bleeding, had to have 4 blood transfusions.

I wont go into extreme detail, just want us to be able to share with each other. Hope I didn't muck this up too much.

Quercetin, when it is tested with melanoma tumor-cell cultures, the tumor cells die. This happens because the melanoma enzyme is tricked into stimulating so much quercetin that it changes and sensitizes the cancerous melanoma cells to the chemotherapy drug and dies. In this situation, quercetin is acting as a biological response modifier. A response modifier is a drug or a chemical compound acting to change the function of tumor cells to make them more responsive to chemotherapy or radiation.

A 2005 study published in the journal, Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, for instance, found that grape-derived resveratrol has an anti-proliferative effect on melanoma cancer cells -- anti-proliferative means that it blocks tumor cells from growing and spreading.

I hope you fight this and win. hf

My cousin goes in for at least an 8 hour surgery on her neck today. She already had surgery and was told there was a 15% chance it would come back. Well, it did..the size of golf balls she was told. The doctor told her as he was talking to her, it was growing. The last time, they removed part of her tongue, and will probably have to do the same again. She will be in ICU for 2 weeks. My cousin has also been an anorexic and alcoholic since she was 15 so she has never been healthy. I don't know how she will survive, but I pray she does. I have a lot of negative history with her, but I think it has finally hit me. She is 36.

Does she have melanoma? So sorry, I pray she makes it through. I had stage I melanoma 11 years ago and they told me I was cured.

Did some research and it looks like it's not all that uncommon for it to come back. Apparently the cells like to hide and pop up again.

Prayers for you and your cousin.

Dichloroacetate Acid (DCA)

"DCA’s anti-cancer properties were discovered in 2007 by Evangelos Michelakis of the University of Alberta. In experiments on rats, Michelakis showed that DCA demonstrated dramatic action against a wide variety of cancers. He experienced a “eureka moment” when he saw that tumors of various types had been dramatically reduced over the course of a few short weeks.

Moreover, DCA showed very minimal disruption to healthy cells. “This is the so-called Holy Grail of cancer treatment,” remarked Michelakis at the time. But Michelakis, along with a host of other medical professionals, warned patients against self-medicating despite a spate of nascent websites offering the product.

In medical research the gold standard of acceptability of a treatment is a phase III clinical trial. There is only one problem: DCA is not patentable. It has already been used at least since the 1970’s in the treatment of a rare metabolic disorder and is generally well tolerated. Moreover, the chemical is simple and dirt cheap."

Check it out on the web; great information and it could be worth a try.

For those suffering with cancer, start drinking a glass of water with a big spoonful of bicarbonate of soda in it a couple of times a day. Cancer cells cannot live in an alkaline environment. Do some online searches. There are testimonials from many who said this made their cancer disappear. Good luck.

My advice to anyone who is ill ? Stay away from doctors , they are only good at one thing? " ending lives "

Natural remedies will prolong the quality of life you have in your battle , I would rather die on my feet than flat on my back in a hospital bed

I wish you all the very best yoda

Thanks for this thread, OP. I'm sorry you're going through this in your life. Damned hard, I know.

I am siting here right now waiting for word from my mother about the results of her bone marrow test. She was in remission with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. After a bad blood count test, we fear relapse. She will most likely chose not to fight on if this is the case, giving her a few month or weeks to live.

Hoping for the best for you and everybody else going through terminal health issues.
