Doctors only kill people , a hospital is where you go when you're ready to die

I know many people that would be dead right now if it weren't for a doctor/hospital.

Thanks for your input though.

Re: Support thread for those with cancer, terminal illness, or any life altering physical ailment. For caregivers as well
I think that sometimes people just don't know how to act, or they feel they don't know what to say. I'm like that. I feel very, very deeply for people, but feel awkward in showing that sometimes.

I also think people try to put on a brave face for others who are suffering, and maybe that can get misinterpreted. People in your life are going through a whole lot of strong emotions, and maybe some denial. It's hard to think that someone who has been there for you your entire life could actually die.

I got diagnosed with non-hodgkin's lymphoma when I was 30. Had a lymph node removed and they found an egg-sized mass in my liver. Never did find out what the mass was.

Anyway, I remember how my mom seemed to be acting as if non of it was a big deal. I told my sister that mom seemed to not be too concerned, and that got back to my mom, who was devastated to hear that I thought she didn't care. She was just trying to be strong for me but I thought that she was just was not taking it very seriously.

This thread was a great idea, Joannie. It's such a help for people to be able to talk with others about these things.
 Quoting: Paige

I agree Paige, I am sure he's having a rough time but it's hard for me not to have my feelings hurt. I'm just leaving it alone and hopefully he will be able to talk to me.

hi Hiya Sweetie! <3

I found out on Saturday that my appointment with my oncologist is on Thursday. It was scheduled for the 20th so I was a bit shocked to find out it is this Thursday. They sent me a lovely surgery pamphlet with the confirmation letter. So I was not mentally prepared for this week. I try to push all of the bad news in my life aside for as long as possible so I don't worry for too long. This was one of those situations where I wanted to forget it existed until last minute. No such luck now. Panic mode, lol. Just kidding (kinda). Lol. The surgery scares me more than anything. I didn't chime in earlier about my own situation because, like I said, I try to pretend it doesn't exist until I HAVE to. Well, now I have to. So there it is.

Skin cancer. Just found out in April and the first available appointment with the oncologist was June 20th so I scheduled it. I know that was the date because my mom's birthday is June 21st and I immediately thought, it's the day before mom's b-day. They must have had a cancellation or something and sent me a letter to confirm this Thursday. 1dunno1

I would have taken June 5th if it was available at the time because I want to take care of everything sooner than later, but I just wasn't expecting that.

Everything happens for a reason. At least I truly believe that and always have. I consider myself lucky to be able to have my consultation this week instead of the 20th. hf

Game face time! hugs

And thank you to those who said they will pray for me. I appreciate it more than I could say. I have witnessed the power of prayer here on GLP. Amazing people here. : )

The interferon was awful?? I've heard this, although I've heard they updated the treatment so that it is far less pills, shots and even length of time. I believe this "updated" version is very new so I assume you had the far worse treatment. Prayers to you. Congrats for getting through that phase my friend! hf

It's hard enough for an adult to deal with all of that never mind a child. Are there any kind of social services or a social worker available to help you help her?

This is something most of us have no experience in, the psychological part of dealing with a child that has a serious illness.

Keep us updated if you can honey. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. It's good to vent and let it out or just talk about your day.

Hi Joannie,

My family is very supportive and I've been dragging my mom around with me lately to any appointments with a specialist. Lol. She's a trooper. She's also my best friend. : )

However I don't always feel comfortable enough to talk about how I'm feeling. With anyone. Oddly enough I feel much more comfortable talking to my GLP friends than I do ANY of my "real life" friends. Pfft, my real friends are here. <3

Yes, a biopsy was done. My PCP removed what she thought was all of it, but after the biopsy she told me that the cancer had gotten so deep into my skin that it would require surgery.

Before I switched my PCP to this current one, I had shown the spot to my previous doctor (maybe 3-4 years ago) and was told it was nothing and not to worry about it. So I didn't. But it just wasn't looking right to me so I showed my PCP at my physical and she immediately said "that's skin cancer." So it's just been doing it's thing for all these years and got deeper and deeper.

Probably could've avoided surgery 3-4 years ago. But it is what it is. I'm glad I have you all for support. hf

My mom was my best friend as well, no one will ever replace her.

You have no idea how many times I've heard stories of doctors dropping the ball leaving the mole or whatever saying it's nothing. I don't understand why they wouldn't double check just in case...so that really sucks for you and it makes me really angry.

I believe the depth (clarks level) is the main concern as far as melanoma goes. It permeates the layers of skin and then likes to travel.

Hopefully it hasn't gotten that far. It goes without saying that you have my prayers honey. I check in here every now and again to see what's going on.

Re: Support thread for those with cancer, terminal illness, or any life altering physical ailment. For caregivers as well
Although I do not have cancer or any terminal illness, I lost my only brother to cancer just yesterday.
I never have felt so much pain and anger before in my life. My heart is so broken right now and I just want to scream and cry and hit something.

I hate the doctors so much because when we found out almost 1 year ago, he was already at stage 4 and they believed that the cancer had been there for several years! He was often setting up appointments with his doctor because of bad pain and symptoms and telling them something was up. But like all doctors, they didn't fucking care! All they care about is sending their patients home with a prescription instead of trying to find the cause.

I'm glad I have you all for support. hf

Sorry, I should have been more specific. It's BCC, not melanoma. But I'm still going to take a look at your link, thank you. hf hugs

I am so sorry for your loss.

Doctors came be so frustrating. I was actually the one who demanded a blood test for my daughter. I kept looking up her symptoms and it leukemia was the number one hit every time. So believe me when I say, I understand.

I'm praying for everyone on this thread and will include you as well.

I am sorry to hear this. I believe you are correct on your assessment, and it is sad so many have to experience this.

My prayers are with you and your broken heart.
