Anyone here familiar with New Hampshire (especially the Lakes Region)? Advice needed, please!
My husband and I have been scouting for retirement properties on-line. After living several years in Maine and spending numerous vacations in New England, we THINK we have narrowed it down to New Hampshire, but it seems that finding a water view property under $400K that is semi-rural (i.e, within five miles of a major supermarket and that also has city water and sewer) is almost impossible. We are really nervous about installing a well and/or septic system as we are suburbanites -- albeit ones who truly enjoy quiet and nature. (I mean, our idea of a good time is playing Scrabble and/or having a glass of wine in front of a fire.) There are several nice condos that seem to meet our requirements, but the last thing we want is to share "close quarters" with obnoxious neighbors, whether temporary vacationers or permanent residents. We are also still much too active (knock wood!) to consider any kind of retirement village. (YUCK!)

Any advice appreciated!

Don't let that put you off, septic tanks are pretty much fail safe if installed and operated correctly.

I like to say wells are an easy take but you can never guarantee the quality of the water you'll get.
