Had a nurse in Texas tell me that recently the government, via the patient intake history, has been asking Medicaid patients for the names, date of birth and the known illnesses of their brothers and sisters. Doctors will ask about a family history of cancer, diabetes, etc., but they don't ask for names and date of birth of every sibling.
Sorry no link just wondering if this is only in Texas or across the US. I have to go now but will check back in the late afternoon.

EMS (rescue squad) charting asks for info on next of kin for billing purposes. Can't figure out ANY scenario where a biller would need to do a skip trace on Medicaid/Medicare patients. However, Obamacare has provisions about taking all assets of a person, from pensions to furniture to cover Medicare expenses. Basically, now when a person goes into a nursing home, the govt takes their entire estate upon death.

Hospitals always ask family history of diseases. (Because genetics is everything until you start talking about race, right?)

Yes hospitals do take a history of family disease but don't ask for DOB and names, that is new.

Your probably right about the estate, they will be coming after family for payment.

hard to imagine how the DOB of sibs would be medically significant.
