their are still good tv shows....reality tv is horrendus tho.

I agree that TV is a distraction, but the quality of the programming really hasn't changed much. I enjoy TV a lot actually. When you know better not to just zombify yourself and soak it all in while thinking of nothing else, it doesn't serve as a distraction from real issues. I usually watch comedies though, 'cause I just want a cheap laugh.

any one with more than basic cable notice that the channels are rerunning things like crazy? Movies shown over and over, even back to back! block programming of things for hours then weekend marathons of same for even longer……i watch maybe 10 of the 80 channels i get -fuck Comcast-i would try Digital, but all the high rises block many of the channels

i ususally use tv for white noise. most of the tv shows i watch are from netflix, i use their dvd plan.im watching Six Feet Under, Its a GREAT show, sucha meaningful message in it.its something i would reccomend Anybody! when i had cable i used to watch adult swim, Sundance was pretty good to, National geographic has some interesting things on.

yea, TV is not the big bad monster that everbody makes it out to be. just choose what you watch carefully.

Exactly. The reason why TV is so bad for some is because they believe everything they hear on TV and are consuming so much biased information on top of mindless TV watching. But people who are aware of this or just don't watch TV that much and get news from credible sources don't have to worry about TV being a big bad monster. They are free to enjoy it. It's more about society / people than it is about TV.

My point is yes, you may think you understand what is happening but there is a great deal of information that completely negates your ability to resist the propaganda.

It is similar to Marine boot camp you may understand what they are trying to do but you don't know just how effective it was until later. When distance and time away and thinking allows a perspective.

The boob tube has full blown evolved into a government/corporate social engineering tool. And the sheep fall for it. We got rid of Dish Network months ago and never looked back. We just do Netflix for $8/month and our own DVD's.

Threw out the idiot-box years ago.

Yeah the entertainment value of TV has cratered. Difficult to even read during the loud and often vulgar commercials...always grabbing for the remote to adjust the volume.

Remember the advertisers are the horse that pulls the wagon for TV to operate.

I quit watching when they switched to digital transmission.

Broadcast TV will go away in the next 10 to 15 years. There won't be enough economic activity outside of New York and Washington to support it.

There will just be a mish mash of cable only and satellite only outfits that will be too fucking expensive to have.

Not only that... Professional sports in the US will also go away as well for the same reasons.
