Just Curious. How much does a single trip to the grocery store cost you daily? | |
HollyWho User ID: 58119401 United States 06/11/2014 12:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I too have noticed prices escalating. I shop once a month because I detest shopping for groceries weekly. I have found that I spend less doing this. My main shopping day runs me around $400. I do have to grab eggs and couple of misc. items after a couple of weeks. I spend around $500 per month and we eat very well. Without a doubt, prices are rising very quickly. |

That's still $6000 per year. A family of five with little to no income will receive about that in food stamps in Michigan. So that's my point why work? I asking it looking at it from their perspective, so many probably just figure work part-time and give up rather than work full time and be on a tight budget and see a large percentage of your income go to food. |

It's not that the prices are going 'up' it's the purchasing power of the Dollar going down. Did You know you can fill up your gas tank with 1.Oz of silver? vind21 User ID: 4500411 United States 06/11/2014 12:51 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I spend about 400$ a month. I have found that I can greatly reduce the cost of my food purchases by going to local farmers markets. I get better quality and its now the same price or cheaper than the grocery store. If you are having problems affording food. I suggest a change in your diet may be the answer. Stop with the boxed foods and pre packaged stuff. Eating alot of Asian style dishes is VERY cost effective in the USA, when I see people's grocery carts its filled with nothing but sugar, and maybe a few sad bags of veggies. Eat more stir fry, and pastas with lots of veggies. I was able to reduce my shopping bill by over 200$ a month simply by purchasing more organic vegetables, hitting the farmers market once a week, and eating more asian inspired dishes as the ingredients are very cheap and go a long way. The only prices I see increasing in the store are for boxed and non-organic foods. I was there yesterday and the prices for organic wonderful smelling tomatoes was only 33 cents a pound more than gmo not even red tomatoes. Heirlooms at the store are like 4.99 a lb Heirlooms at the farmers market are like 1$ a lb Screw you, I'm from Texas. |

JenJen User ID: 14857774 United States 06/11/2014 12:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Went to the store the other day and for the first time, I saw three sections of boneless chicken, 3lb, 4lb, 5lb. I have a family of 5 (Mother living with me) so I need to get the 5lb bag, and it is now 12 dollars. I spend about 600 a month for perishable and non perishable and luches for two kids for school. I'm so broke. :( Gas is also killing us, it's 3.53 in Virginia, and my husband has to fill up every week, as he has to drive an hour each way to have a job. Food packages are getting smaller, prices are rising, and no jobs that offer decent salaries or benefits, temp agencies are allowing people to stay a temp forever, and NO FRIGGIN RAISES!!! Sorry, I'm just tired of the GREED in our Country. |

It is becoming more and more about GREED and less and less about the ability for those at the bottom to be able to climb the ladder. |
Carnac The Magnificent User ID: 3560801 United States 06/11/2014 01:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ugh.... I think we spend about 1K a month at the store -- and I am only there on Friday and Saturday, so most of that is by my wife and two kids. We spend at least $500 going out a month too. I will certainly have to show her THIS thread while in front of the refrigerator. Last week, there were like 5 kinds/brands of juice, the half gallon containers, taking up half the freakin' fridge. It is not like that crap is any good for you -- all fake flavors and corn sweeteners. Last Edited by Cap’n Obvious on 06/11/2014 01:08 PM Have a nice day = GFY. GFY = Go Fuck Yourself. HollyWho User ID: 58119401 United States 06/11/2014 01:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I always look to see what other people have in their carts. I'm not the shopping police or anything but wow! One woman obviously doesn't cook at all. She had only frozen dinners, no fresh vegi's and soda. Another had all fresh Yet another had kids in her basket! I couldn't find that aisle. Strange too that the health of the person matched the contents of the basket. I'm sure that's not always the case. The person with all the frozen food and soda could have been having a party or something I suppose. I haven't been down the frozen food aisle in a long time so I wonder if it's less expensive to buy processed foods? |

JenJen User ID: 14857774 United States 06/11/2014 01:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My favorite is when it's Food Stamps time, you see all these people with their carts full of cases of sode. Don't they know a 2 liter is only a dollar??? I guess when it's not their hard earned money, they don't care?? I think soda, and chips and candy should be forbidden on food stamps and Toilet paper, soap, and laundry detergent should be allowed. I help those who have food stamps by giving them sometimes the major non perishables because food stamps doesn't allow it. That to me is sad. (I'm talking about those people who are getting food stamps because they really need them) |

I think I see some saving in your future if you mashed em yourself. One insight I have is from talking to old people on a regular basis in my old job. I had one nice old lady go off about soup. Not the cost, but the fact that people think soup is supposed to come in cans. We pay big bucks for stuff that we ought to be making ourselves. In fact, you could work less cook more and break even, then mothers would be home ahhh I digress, who wants to cook? |

This includes all cleaning and paper products. Mind you, we barley use paper products because we use "un-paper towels" "family cloth" and cloth diapers. The baby doesn't drink formula either. Can't imagine how much we would spend if we did use that stuff. This is an oubliette. The labyrinth is full of 'em. |

Around here a gallon of local no name milk is just over $4. Name brand milk is over $6. Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall free me. Or something |
