US officials, it should be noted, characterized this purely scientific mission as a “bombing run” that came within 50 miles of California, but which their Air Forces were able to repel by their launching of F-15 fighter jets.

Yeah, the thing about Russia is they are the propaganda kings. It is a science to their government that they have honed and have many many years of practice employing it.

The latest trick was to wait a few generations before trying it on America again in the hopes that we would forget that fact.

It seems to have worked nicely on a certain percent of the population. But less than they had hoped i am sure.
