(Bringing this back to the surface so people know the truth) This is my wife’s; I covered up all relevant info about her. I left her first initial, last two letters of her middle name and last three letters of her TWO different last names on her "certificate of live" birth. We’ll start with a bit of her story, her mother was a prostitute, and her father was a drug addict. He got life in jail before she was even born. Her mother gave her up at age 6. The social worker assigned to my wife was a very special lady, when she retired she showed up at our door and handed my wife a box of info she was not allowed to give her. In that box was the original birth certificate. When we go down town and get a copy of the “original certificate of live birth” it’s not the original, they changed it. My wife was legally adopted then given back to the state because her adopted parents were nuts and I then meet her in the orphanage. The names that now appear on her “official original certificate of live birth” are her adopted parent’s name! Now listed as her birth parents Legally The only existing copy with her real parents’ names is in my hands because of her social worker. The social worker had the power to change her original, but luckily kept and returned the real document to us. So a social worker who was new at her job at the time had the power to change who appeared as the birth parents on a "original certificate of live birth" for a child in state custody. So next time you hear people arguing about Big-O's birth certificate and is it real or not, remember what I just showed you... Even if it is the legal copy that is officially on file that you pulled yourself. I'm only human, it's my biggest flaw. The inside city limits box was not filled out on the altered copy. The date signed was typed in on the altered copy where as it was hand written on the original. The date received was a stamp in the original but hand written in the altered copy. Welcome to the world of altered government documents that no one talks about... Including their ages when I was born. Although they didn't even know me at the time. I was adopted shortly before my 6 th birthday so I know who my real parents are and am still in contact with my biological Siblings. Also, I was born in another state but my birth certificate is from the state they lived in not the one I was born in. Excellent post! I see the sadness behind the smile. |

This is why I decided to post it, people need to see through the system. You know, I don’t know why they even altered it, why would you take a child who remember her real mother and being given up to the state then erase the names of her birth parents from her birth certificate. Now her maiden name is the name of the asshats who adopted her have gave her back to the state 5 years later on the same exact date they adopted her. Maybe someone who has adopted could shed a little more lite on it, she was 8 or 9 at the time they changed this info in her record. I'm only human, it's my biggest flaw. She was not allowed to give it to us, she would have lost her job. She even had my wife's old toys still saved over 20 years later, she was a good lady. I'm only human, it's my biggest flaw. I'm trying to think, I know I saw the birth certificate because I named him after my Dad, it had the birth-fathers name on it and mine. Maybe I have that in my box of papers from when I relinquished. I'd have to dig to be sure. If I don't have it, I at least SAW it once. How they might have altered that later on, I'm not sure. Bless that Social Workers heart!!! (Bringing this back to the surface so people know the truth) I acutely hid her birth date, she was born in the beginning of the month, the date you see is the date it was signed and accepted by the state. I just realized the “original’ is Certified July 1985, that must have been the one the social worker pulled for the adoption and for the court to change the legal record. I appreciate the info people posted, apparently this is very common, I never really looked in to what standard procedure is for adoption and birth record alterations are. (Bringing this back to the surface so people know the truth) I can tell you with adoptions the original Birth Certificate is destroyed by the State when the new one is made. The new one is back dated and the new parent names are on the certificate. The adoptive mothers name will now appear as the birth mother at the live birth. Other information such as Doctor, time of birth will remain the same. The original certificate is truly destroyed. The only record of the original would be the copies in the adoption case file or if Parents held on to the original. At least this is the case in my State. |

I spent impious days over the next several months tramping through rural cemeteries in Iowa and Wisconsin, Illinois and North Dakota,searching for those sad little markers of people born between 1940 and 1950 who had died between 1945 and 1955. The numbers were surprising: two in one graveyard, a cluster of fourteen in another. Those poor souls had typically been issued birth certificates—available to us at any county courthouse for a couple of bucks and a simple form with information I could copy from the death announcement at the archive of the local paper—but they had never applied for a Social Security card. Collecting those birth certificates became a small industry, and within a year we had over a hundred. |
