OREGON state (or California, ooor Washington!)
I'm doing it- I'm buying land there.
I'm building a homestead, homeschooling my boy.
QUESTION:
Which counties permit more FREEDOMS, such as water rights, land use, etc?
Parental rights are a big deal for me.
What about oregon vaccine exemptions?
Pros and cons to different areas?
So far I'm looking at southern Oregon due to an abundance of precious sunlight, but I'm open to further north (or even northen California)

Yes, I know about fukushima, but do you think *anywhere* in the northern hemisphere is safe?
Water is abundant in this region, and the severe drought in the botttom two thirds of California moved the water issue really far up our list of importance.

What areas from Northern California up to Northern Washington would be great places to pursue our goals?

We are permaculturist, land loving, homeschooling, vaccine refusing, freedom loving freaks!

ALSO: I'm very open to ideas!
I plan to build a greenhouse, of course.
Beyond that, we're considering building a few cabins as vacation rentals for some income.

What would YOU do with a bunch of acres in the Pacific Northwest country?

Cattle is intimidating. I'm VERY skilled in growing food, and pretty much anything. With the proper set-up, I can grow tropical fruit in the Rocky Mountains (I'm currently in colorado, but sick of snow and dry climate)

CATTLE though..... would be a learning experience.

Any other ideas?

Actually, I'm in Colorado. We are flooded with Californians
too. As a result, living costs have TRIPLED.

It's not just californians either. People have moved here from EVERYWHERE. Especially the east coast.

So, do you have any USEFUL information?

Rural areas are no longer safe havens. You will be the proverbial sitting duck. Alone. Safety in numbers and anonymity is your best bet. If you must live rural, be at least 2 hrs from nearest highway.

If you go to the West side of the Cascades be prepared for rain.. Sometime months at a time.. Longest I've see it was 96 days in a row.. Get good rain gear not the cheap shit at local big bag stores.. Also, be prepared for darkness in the winter. Not just of shorter days but cloudy grey dark days which is still considered "Partly Sunny" here..

Re: OREGON state (or California, ooor Washington!)
If you love rain all winter pick west of the cascades. East is dryer, but more fire danger. As far a the states...I have lived in both California and now in Washington, I would say go for washington or oregon.

California is having a major water problem, and since they get alot of their water from Northern Ca, I would advise against going to N. CA, the drought problems look to have no end in sight.

but on the bright side, The Humboldt County area in Northern Ca is really cool, and they seem to have their own economy...the emerald triangle...Seems to be lots of freedom lovers there though. They want to make their own state there, break free from CA...look up the state of Jefferson for more info.

I can't speak for Oregon, all I know is they don't have sales tax there...and it is very beautiful.

Washington is great, no state income tax collected, but other taxes are much higher. Cigarettes and liquor are through the roof.

Stay away from all big cities though...not too hard to do since there are lots of rural areas in WA and OR.

But be warned, if you moved to a small town, you will always be an outsider to them. The locals are very guarded of their communities. Don't expect to make instant friends, locals are generally very weary of new comers...at least this has been my experience.

But live your dream, do your thing and don't worry about them.

Oh and one more thing...the further north you go, the shorter the growing season...you probably already know that...with your gardening experience. It is hard to grow crops here under normal means, you need a greenhouse to grow tomatoes, etc. A bit challenging, but the winters are very mild, making it possible to grow food all year round...

Good luck with your decision.

As for Oregon, the questions would be. What is your budget for land? Some areas are pretty pricy - especially those with water rights.

I would probably suggest Glide, Oregon. Good weather for growing a large garden. Lots of 7th Day Adventists in the community (vegetarians, home school, religious exceptions for immunizations). Land is less expensive.

Eastern Oregon. I'm in Central Oregon on five and one half acres, we have over 300 days of sun a year, it's high desert climate. Eastern Oregon has a lot of open land available.

I moved to southern or coast. I'm in the banana belt, so the weather is mild. Miles and miles of forest, streams, underground springs. We also have the Chetco Effect which makes it 10 degrees warmer. Also because of location and currents, the water is cleaner. Beautiful.

 Quoting: 4thhorseman

Do NOT buy close to a river in the Pacific Northwest unless you buy on the high ground. Low lying areas flood and if Mt. Rainier or one of the other volcanoes blow, the rivers will be flowing with mud, rock, and pyroclastic material. You could end up like the people who died in Pompeii when Vesuvius erupted.

Pay very close attention to the geology of the area before you buy. Make sure there is no risk of landslides or floods affecting your land.

Check out clear cut land being sold by the logging companies. You will have to remove all the stumps but the land is relatively cheap if you buy clear cut. If you don't want to deal with that, check out the Olympic Peninsula in Washington.

One more thing, there are lots of other people who had the same idea you have but are many years ahead of you. There are people who live in the mountains and back country who are potentially dangerous. Lots of vagrants, homeless camps, drifters, etc. Make sure you know who lives around you and who passes through the area before you buy.

If you are a liberal, then STAY THE FUCK OUT. If you are a good, traditional, moral type, then... welcome.

If you are interested in freedom and sanity, then stay the hell away from the I-5 corridor. Portland, Salem, Eugene, Medford, Ashland.

As far as land use laws here... THEY ABSOLUTELY SUCK. But no matter what, if you do move here, move out in the country, which is what it sounds like you have planned anyway.

And Kalifornia? Don't even THINK about moving there, unless you love libturd communism. The Kalifornians are what destroyed Oregon!! They streamed up here by the thousands, and turned it into the maggot-infested cesspool of libturdism that they left back in Kalifornia.

Research that niche, over priced and over crowded as it is, it's great way to loose a few $100k

Get some land near a decent river, put in an orchard and large garden and learn to fish and live your life.

Please give up on the commercialization of more Oregon land, thank you.
