Well this is a Kickstarter program. More and More companies are getting into this online crowd funding so anyone can contribute instead of one entity behind closed doors.

So fucking vapid really.

I donno if Monsanto is or not but its a guarantee those selling grow lights are Out. lol

If I recall kickstarter pulled the plug on this insane idea they had due to the amount of flak they got over been so stupid.

They haven't done SHIT yet. They are wanting you to send them money so they can TRY to do this. Didn't you see them showing fake lunar landings? These guys are hucksters

They already made the plants and showed it off. China also made glow in the dark monkeys and pigs years ago. Those you can already buy but are very expensive so not many people know about it. These planets are only 40 bucks at seed so will be as common as tomato's at the local supermarket.

Is there something wrong with sunlight? I mean, sunlight on a very cloudy day still puts out far more lumens than glowing plants ever will.

I could see these as pretty awesome decoration, though.
(I'd certainly consider lining my paths and border the house with them)

The sustainability and savings in energy could play a huge role in the colonization of space. They already plan on establishing greenhouses for the first colonizers of Mars anyways. Why not these eh?

It is an interesting idea, again, it will all depend on the spectrum and lumens of light those plants can give off.

The main drawback of using these plants would be the trade off of saving some energy versus losing a lot of planting space.

This is an interesting first step, who knows what they may come up with down the road!
