I give about 30-45 seconds in very hot (not boiling) water. It opens up the cells and makes the nutrients more available, while not cooking the broccoli and destroying it's health benefits.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5799367

Blanching it like that also allows you to freeze it without turning into a soggy, unappetizing mess.

Recipe in a nutshell:

Raw broccoli, washed and cut into small pieces
Shredded carrots
Chopped Red Onion, fine.
Uncured bacon, cooked and cut into small pieces
Dried Cranberries and/or Golden Raisin Berry mix from Trader Joe's
Roasted, unsalted sunflower seeds
Apple Cider Vinegar
Low Fat Mayo
Freshly cracked black pepper
Scant sugar (optional)

Mix all together, I create the dressing first to taste, some people prefer sugar or not, dressing is similar to a cole slaw type dressing.

Great source of chromium as well. I believe it also has some type of chemical that helps people with hyperthyroidism. Either it helps or it helps regulate the thyroid.

Cool! What do they have to say about the toxic shit they spray on it to keep bugs and fungus from destroying it?
 Quoting: Rabid Wolf

no toxic shit needs to enter the picture here

Growing your own sprouts is easy. it just takes seeds (buy organic if you can) a glass jar, cheese cloth or gauze, water (Filtered) sunlight and a couple of days time.

You soak the seeds in the water, then drain it with the cheese cloth/ gauze covering the jar opening. Rinse the seeds daily and watch them sprout for the next coupe of days. Then let them green up in the sun for a day or two.

you'll be amazed at how much flavor can come from a little sprout!

Love broccoli.
Get mine from Schwans. The micro steam bags make it so easy to fix.Just heat and heat but I usually put cheese over mine.Like it on baked potatoes too.
Probably wouldnt eat as much if it wasnt already in the steam bag and so easy.

Re: Broccoli Loves You
I know what I'm having for lunch tomorrow now...

One thing the Chinese do very well is not overcooking veggies.

In a wok, pour in a couple tablespoons of peanut oil.

Have your thinly sliced chicken breast ready and when the oil in just starting to smoke, reduce heat to half and toss in chicken.

When chicken is almost done, throw in two big handfuls of fresh broccoli and your seasonings, like hot sauce, red pepper flakes, MSG, whatever you like, and stir and serve...don't let the broccoli cook for very long, you only want the toughness out of it.

I hate rice, but some people ruin this dish by serving it over rice. enjoy!
