How often does anyone even write in cursive anymore, aside from signing their name? I can't think of one single instance in years that I've had to.

Oh shit. The world is changing

Too scary for you?

I bet you people who are older and write great cursive couldn't do half the things these kids can do with a smartphone/computer

Whining about change makes you sound like an old man

Interesting. spock

In 2012/13 the hate baiting threads were all gender and race. Looks like 2014 is the year of the generational hate bait.

The original draft document written by Jefferson, with additions and deletions by Adams and Franklin.
Pretty cool.
I doubt Justin Bieber could read it.

But I have to say, Jefferson's handwriting here isn't very good, and he mistakes the contraction it's for the possessive!

It has to be typed out for them because all they know is block lettering.

Meh. I'm not part of the so-called "Justin Bieber" generation and I learned how to write cursive. However, the Constitution and DoI are written in a very antiquated type of cursive writing. Plus, I've been to the National Archives and they are really faded and hard to read even if you can read cursive.

Private schools?

I've been told it's no longer taught.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1134261

Cursive has normally been taught after children master printing. Common Core pretty much drops writing before the age when cursive is taught, limiting it to block printing.

here is an article that shows the benefits of cursive, even though the original tone of the article was not pro-cursive. Reading the entire thing, you see this:

Dr. Berninger goes so far as to suggest that cursive writing may train self-control ability in a way that other modes of writing do not, and some researchers argue that it may even be a path to treating dyslexia. A 2012 review suggests that cursive may be particularly effective for individuals with developmental dysgraphia — motor-control difficulties in forming letters — and that it may aid in preventing the reversal and inversion of letters.

Re: The Justin Bieber generation never learned cursive writing and are thus unable to read the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution
Two psychologists, Pam A. Mueller of Princeton and Daniel M. Oppenheimer of the University of California, Los Angeles, have reported that in both laboratory settings and real-world classrooms, students learn better when they take notes by hand than when they type on a keyboard. Contrary to earlier studies attributing the difference to the distracting effects of computers, the new research suggests that writing by hand allows the student to process a lecture’s contents and reframe it — a process of reflection and manipulation that can lead to better understanding and memory encoding.

Interesting.

Psychologists and neuroscientists are saying Hold up here!

“When we write, a unique neural circuit is automatically activated. There is a core recognition of the gesture in the written word, a sort of recognition by mental simulation in your brain."

i know cursive and if i wanted to read the Constitution I'd find the printed format online ...doubt anyone is EVER going to look at a actual reprint of the Constitution to check it out.

i don't mind GLP, but i'm getting sick out of these overreacting gramdmas trying to find DOOM in everything.

That's the sad part about the uneducated, they don't even realize what they don't know.

You have a lot to learn AC and with your attitude I doubt you ever will.

I was actually taught cursive BEFORE standard lettering....my parents reasoning....easier to learn because letters require no pen lifting.(except for 't's and 'i's......I was writing fluent cursive and also knew block lettering before kindergarten.
