That's kinda what I was driving at. But also, in the same way as you couldn't possibly describe "hearing a sound" to a species that never had ears, there could be something else out there that we can't possibly grasp because we don't have the "ears" for it. If you spell "old school" with a "k", you are not old school. |

Correct. But that would then be put down to the sense of touch. Something moving in the air and you can feel it. However, the concept of "hearing" a sound would still be totally alien. If you spell "old school" with a "k", you are not old school. |

Quoting: HEAVEN2MEAgreed. As I say to people who don't think there is anything beyond what we currently know; "I really don't think that unused 90% is for storing telephone numbers." How do they know what a door slamming or opera music sounds like. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71120Exactly. People who once had hearing, but then lost it, know what they are missing. People born 100% deaf have no concept of it. If you spell "old school" with a "k", you are not old school. |

Quoting: GhostHunterVibrations would then be sound to us.. Just thinking more on what you've said here GH. Without ears, sound would be vibrations we feel via touch. We'd be able to differentiate it from touching solid objects too, as it feels different. So to us, sound would = "that vibration you feel". Of course, there's more to it, but we don't have ears so we never even suspect there's more to it. So imagine if there was "more to" light? To us, light is what makes everything bright, has heat to it, and that's about it. What if there's more to it than that, but we don't have the "ears" for it? I'll stop babbling now. If you spell "old school" with a "k", you are not old school. |
