BOLIVIA BANS BITCOIN...for my dear bitcointards

El Banco Central de Bolivia, the central bank of the South American nation, has officially banned any currency or coins not issued or regulated by the government, including bitcoin and a list of other cryptocurrencies including namecoin, peercoin, Quark, primecoin and feathercoin.

I'm a cointard. I organise Bitcoin conferences.

Thankfully not in Boliva, but the one in China I was going to do didn't look very promising due to the banning there... So I sold my equity in the project.

Re: BOLIVIA BANS BITCOIN...for my dear bitcointards
Though rich in mineral and energy resources, Bolivia is one of South America's poorest countries. Wealthy urban elites, who are mostly of Spanish ancestry, have traditionally dominated political and economic life, whereas most Bolivians are low-income subsistence farmers, miners, small traders or artisans.

You, know, if the Bolivian government were doing such a great job, you could, perhaps, understand their actions... but they are doing a piss-poor job and now deprived their nation of low-incomers from a genuine opportunity to move beyond corrupt fiat!

Hope the nation revolts!

Not a bitcoin person, but when people flee a nation's currency, the state will criminalize the competing currencies. Gold isn't any better in that regard. Bitcoins will be banned in the USA soon, as well as gold, and any other thing that could become a popular trading mechanism.

So I don't think it is fair for gold people to point out this is a bitcoin specific weakness - it isn't. But on that same note, now the bitcoin people are figuring out that this isn't half the panacea like they thought it would be.

bitcoin has been over for a while.

all the exchanges are following the same pattern, robbing their entire customer base of all their bitcoin.

you would think people could set aside their delusions of greed for getting rich, and move on to another coin.

however, bitcoin will be mined until there is no longer a reward system, then the next coin will take off.

Wow... Still a huge amount of ignorance on this website concerning bitcoin. That is ok, you'll all be late to the party.

And how stupid could Bolivia get? Best not to ban what the U.S. is selling....

Hello? US is selling 30,000 bitcoins next week... They are not going to ban them. If they did, they would be much easier to hide than gold or silver. Then you can go anywhere in the world and use them.

Since the current federal reserve note is losing value due inflationary quantitative easing and will further lose more value as a world reserve currency due to the Russian-China oil deal, countries like Bolivia want to be part of the BRIC alliance.

It is the BRIC countries that want to avoid bitcoin because the digital currency thwarts their plan to become the world reserve currency after the US dollar fails.

The BRIC countries are: Brazil, Russia, India, China and Australia.

Of course Bolivia bans Bitcoin. They don't want to be left behind.
