Russia putting troops on alert - Ukraine distraction - US House passed 491 Billion $ defense budget for...
Everyone is so distracted with Russia and Ukraine - and actually also "ISIS" in Iraq, nobody saw this? Last Friday the House passed a $491 Billion defense budget, although it looks like for good reasons, especially considering the whole prisoner swap disaster as well as putting limits on NSA, BUT, look at the language and what else they worked into it, read it carefully, only 50% posted, read the whole thing. The way I read it, they're ready to go not only into Iraq with more forces (maybe more covertly) but also into Syria. Maybe this is what Russia is preparing for?

The House on Friday approved a $491 billion spending bill for the Pentagon that seeks to prevent future prisoner transfers from Guantanamo Bay.

The bill was approved in a 340-73 vote, with all but six of the "no" votes coming from Democrats.

The Obama administration has said it "strongly opposes" the bill, but has stopped short of a veto threat. It has objected to a restriction on transferring Guantanámo prisoners in the bill, as well as language that would prevent discussion of a new round of base closures.

The measure would provide $491 billion for military personnel, defense technology research and equipment procurement. Overall, the funding provided is $4.1 billion more than the current spending level and $201.8 million above the Obama administration's budget request.

The biggest surprise in the bill may be language putting limits on the National Security Agency.

In a vote late Thursday night, the House adopted, by a 293-123 vote, an amendment offered by Reps. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) and Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) to prohibit the search of government databases for information on U.S. citizens without a warrant.

"The American people are sick of being spied on," Massie said.

But House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) argued the amendment would potentially jeopardize national security by limiting the NSA's intelligence-gathering activities.

"This amendment would create a blind spot for the intelligence community tracking terrorists with direct connections to the U.S. homeland," Goodlatte said. "Such an impediment would put American lives at risk of another terrorist attack."

The House voted 230-184 to prevent the Obama administration from transferring detainees from Guantanamo Bay in light of the controversial exchange of U.S. Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl for five Taliban prisoners.

"It simply shows the judgment of this Congress, the people's representatives, that these remaining 149 detainees are too dangerous to be cavalierly released to a country without adequate constraints or notification to Congress," said Rep. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), the amendment's sponsor.

Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.) offered an opposing amendment to do away with provisions in the bill that prohibit funds from being used to transfer Guantanamo Bay detainees or construct facilities to keep the prisoners in the U.S. But it was rejected 163-249.

"For far too long over the course of this war, we've let our fear triumph over our commitment to the rule of law," Moran said.

Also late Thursday night, the House defeated, 165-250, an amendment from Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) that would prohibit the use of funds for new U.S. military intervention in Iraq as Sunni militants from extremist group the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria storm the country. Forty-four Democrats voted against it, including House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (Md.) and House Assistant Minority Leader James Clyburn (S.C.). But House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) voted for Lee's amendment.

"We must not let history repeat itself," Lee said. "These calls to be dragged back into Iraq must be rejected."

Nobody is bothered by this? When you continue reading, they also defeated an Ammendment that would end the use of military force approval from 2002. You guys should pay attention what your Reps are doing!? Especially those that oppose any more military forces being used in Iraq and definitely are against the use of military force in Syria, which is already used covertly btw. That's your taxes Americans wake up already! I would be on the phone with my Reps immediately if I saw they are one of those that voted against these Ammendments.

The other thing about this bill - isn't it particular curious that after the "hands off list" leak they are suddenly concerned about NSA spying too much on the "citizens"????? HELLOOOOO? Now that we know that the most radicalized and extreme jihadis are travelling all over the globe to train, fight and get in and out of countries as they please because they hold US or other EU passports? SUDDENLY we need a "Warrant" to check on those guys? Come on...

The US federal budget bears no resemblance to reality.

They spend far far more than what Congress appropriates or allows for in borrowing authority...

It's all a total sham. The US budget is as rigged as the fake ass stock market.

They collect far far less in taxes than they claim and spend far far more than they claim as well.

It's all Zog, all the time.

when you read the article , and I'm not that smart or want to claim to be so intelligent about everything going on in the US because its very complicated, but just by reading, it shows how the defense budget was raised and of course the budget goes WAY above anything and was raised yet again. People in America should start to take a look and I put this out there for those to look that have a better understanding of the details. If I was an American, I would be on the phone with my Rep and ask some serious questions about this.

But HEY, it's the weekend....YAYYYY! Lets go out and have fun and forget about the slaving we do all week long. Sorry but that's how it seems. Passing this on a Friday night and nobody cares or bothers to really read or understand what their government is doing in these matters that are of such big importance now.

As much as I resent saying this, there is absolutely no way humans will ever wake up! It is simply impossible! It's written in our DNA. To be working slaves our whole life in the hope that we'll make it to heaven. It's all about obedience on this planet. When a child grows up he's taught to be respectful towards elders and to follow rules and orders. Never does that child get the time or support to come to a self logical assessment of life and its meaning. We were born into bondage and we shall die in chains for we have never seen what's outside our cave of delusions.

The biggest surprise in the bill may be language putting limits on the National Security Agency.

What makes you think the "new" generation is any different than the old one? I've been to all the continents and I've seen self obsessed people to whom all that matters is the next phone or their appearances. At least the older generation had a functioning family. Now marriages are defunct to the core. Men cheating on women women cheating on men. Where social ranks are all that matter. The humans who show the most greed are cheered upon. Whoever owns the biggest house the fastest car is successful and if you're content with a small house and bicycle to work you become the laughing stock or worse are constantly pitied upon. Where war is the new normal and genocide is overlooked. We have been fighting since time immemorial and we have been praying since way before that. What makes you think this generation is different? The players change but the game remains the same!
