There is a text called the hymn of the pearl. Basically, it is the story of a prince from the east that leaves his father's house and travels to Egypt. While in Egypt, he learns to eat the Egyptian's food and falls into slumber and ends up dressed in rags and forgets his mission he had when he left his father's house. After a while, he awakens from his slumber and remembers the mission he had when he left the East; to fight a dragon and retrieve from it a pearl called the pearl of great price. After securing the pearl, he can then return back to his father's house and put back on is fine clothing.

This story sounds similar to the Joseph story from the bible about leaving your land and losing your fine rainment and moving to Egypt. Eventually returning to reclaim all that you've lost.
