If he is sanctioned than the guys who got away with intentionally elbowing an opponent in the face need the same. Saw it several times, but Col vs Japan was the most recent. An elbow to the nose can do a lot more damage than a bite to the shoulder. |

I told them that the Italy player who was red-carded comitted a foul that would have done faaaaar more to end a player's career than what Suarez did. In fact, apart from the fact that what Suarez actually did happened to look somewhat kooky, those bite marks are sooooo superficial an injury to a professional athlete's career that it is a joke for such a professional Internatinal player to run to daddy (in this case the referee!) and insist the Uruguian striker be sent off let-alone banned from International footie for possibly two years. FIFA is worried that it DID look kooky and fears for its public image should they leave it go by... Last Edited by ICELANDIC on 06/25/2014 10:34 AM |

He'll probably get longer than THAT, sir! A "24-International-game-ban" is on the cards. In all likelihood, he'll be allowed to continue his club career at Liverpool but I think they'll sell him to a Spanish side, now. He's currently valued at £70,000,000 and rising... So you're saying an elbow is the same as baring your fucking TEETH and biting someone like a lowlife ANIMAL, instead of acting like a professional player? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 56523118 Give me a break. Everything I've been reading from the anti-Suarez camp is purely subjective and reactionary diatribe. YES! When it really comes down to it, an elbow in the face, in terms of the potential physical harm it inflicts, is not only "the same" but much worse. Chiellini could have permanently damaged Suarez's eye. The Italian player who lunged at the Uruguayan's shin during the same match is more guilty of deliberate physical harm than Suarez, aswell. As a judge, I wouldn't punish Chiellini, however. Cirumstances predispose me to mitigate his punishment to just a serious reprimanding, sir. However; Chiellini is one of those players who make the game look bad by putting it, "Calcio", in a bad light with all of his notorious snitching on oponents to referees, even in the Italian Serie A league. The real reason why FIFA is taking this incident so seriously is because it DOES look animal-like and not because any harm was inflicted upon Chiellini. FIFA has an image to maintain. Throwing Suarez under the bus will come naturally to Blatter and co(horts)... Ciao e grazzie tanto, felice amico. Buon estate. Last Edited by ICELANDIC on 06/25/2014 04:54 PM |

You're missing the point my Maltese friend...the elbow came AFTER --AFTER--the bite, a reflex action by Chiellini. I'd elbow an Uruguyuan monkey too, if he bit me in the shoulder. Chewy Luis has got to go. Ban his sorry ass. |

Ho fatto il "elbow" dopo... errrm... tu vede San Pei, pero?!?!... ^ My Italian is a little limited to '80s Japanese manga cartoons! I agree, if I were the judge I would take into account that Chiellini was most probably shocked by being bitten by "cannibal Suarez" and his elbow response was more reflexive! ...None of us can prove that, though... |

The issue here is not about what causes more injury, an elbow or a bite, it's the matter of a professional footballer, deliberately biting a fellow player. We are for ever seeing aggressive fouls and elbowing, unfortunately it's seems to be part of the game. We have seen some very aggressive and unwanted tackles in the English Premiership, like the Roy Keane tackle that ended Haland's footballing career. Now Suarez has taken a lot of stick from the press and fans over the past few years, some justified, some not, but he just can't seem to stay out of trouble. I have often compared Suarez's football career to the world champion boxer Mike Tyson, both fantastic sportsmen, top of their profession, but both have the tendency to lose their control. Both came from poor backgrounds, and I believe both sportsmen cannot handle the rewards of money and success. They will do anything to ensure victory, regardless of the consequences. Here's the thing, should we throw Suarez under the bus or let him get away with it? I believe he should be punished, but not the two year international ban, may be a 4 game ban playing for his country. Unfortunately, I think Liverpool will sell him, which is a shame, as Suarez is one of the best players, if not the best player in the Premiership. |
