UK Citizens Want to Purchase Water Cannon to Defend From Police

Because of the London Police purchasing 3 water cannnons for protests this year, civilians in London are now funding a program to purchase their own.

"'London's has purchased three water cannon for the Met Police's armoury against austerity protesters this year. Surely it's only fair the people had one too?'

This is the question being asked by protesters who are furious at Boris Johnson's announcement that he bought three water cannon for the Metropolitan Police at a cost of £218,000.

Now, London is facing a water cannon arms race, as protesters launched a crowdfunding project on the StartJoin platform aiming to raise £30,000 to buy police-grade riot control weaponry.

The London mayor's decision to purchase the cannon has been condemned by those warning that the weapons are dangerous because they have killed and blinded people in the past.

Labour and the Liberal Democrats have condemned the water cannon purchase as "reckless", insisting there is not enough evidence that the tactic is effective in maintaining order.

Water cannon have never been used on the British mainland, although they have been deployed in Northern Ireland."
