Mitch Albom: When did fathers become expendable?
Last week was Father’s Day. We know that from the calendar, the lines at restaurants and the holiday sales at Best Buy.

But the rest of the year, fatherhood is shrinking in significance. I’m not just talking about physical absence — a third of American kids now live without their biological fathers — I’m talking about perceived importance. More and more, fathers are being viewed as less than necessary.

A 2010 study concluded that children of lesbian parents fared just as well — if not better — than those from a traditional man-woman marriage. A 2013 book stated “the notion that fathering is essential to children’s ... development seems to be a uniquely American preoccupation.”

And take this recent exchange on “The View,” an ABC show with a massive female audience. A guest host, an actor named Terry Crews, had floated the idea that “there are some things only a father can give you.” He was deluged by objection — both on social media and on the set.

When he said, “A father gives you your name,” cohost Whoopi Goldberg joked, “Like in ‘The Lion King?’ ” When he said “a father gives you your security” and “your confidence,” cohost Jenny McCarthy, who is raising a son on her own, shot back, “I’m a single mother and I guarantee you, I can give (my son) all those things.”

The debate went on for several minutes at a high volume, with the female hosts paying homage to widows, single moms and gay couples, and McCarthy hammering at the idea that her “amazing” son needs no man.

Re: Mitch Albom: When did fathers become expendable?
Biologically males have always been the expendable gender. It's hardwired into us. Men go to war and sign up for dangerous professions and it is seen as natural. It's part of our evolution. Women can procreate as long as there's even a single male around. If there's only one female around, it doesn't matter how many men there are.

Of course, in the context of social evolution it means a different thing, but nevertheless the father has never been seen equally important for the child upbringing as the mother.

Written by a Marxist activist...

THE RE-SOCIALIZATION OF MEN TO BECOME MOTHERS.

Fathers would not be eliminated, but the role and meaning of the father would
be re-socialized, first by eliminating any assumptions to rule, to lead, to
dominate, to exercise authority, to be privileged and conferred special status.
There would be no more patriarchal fathers!

With the elimination of gender roles, fathers and mothers would share and
perform all the functions and roles needed to ensure the healthy development
of offspring and their community. Needless to say, marriage, the nuclear
family, monogamy would all be abolished
as assumed normative
arrangements, however, individuals would be free to make their own
mutually satisfying arrangements, though the society or community as a
whole would assume primary responsibility for well-being and development
of everyone.

fathers have never been expendable, but unfortunately they often got eaten by tyranasaurus rex or killed by the tribe to the south.

thus nature invented the menopause, so that the young mother and her children wouldn't be left without someone to help provide food and support the tribe.

but it is much better to have the men AROUND.

i think that is why many men see their mother-in-laws as a strange sort of competitor.

i heart men. you guys rock.

it's been a slow erosion of all things men, a war on men where men have no rights or value disguised as equality for women.

Fortunately there is an viable effective option for men to avoid divorce or becoming a walking ATM or a twat's sperm donor: MGTOW.

The real war has been against fathers for 60 years.

Woman are encouraged to become part of govtdotorgs hareem.

It's the male that's been designated the real slave in any relationship with govdotorg as a part of the relationship.

The only one willing to stand and defend the family is the father, the woman cares about security for herself and her baby and is fully willing to trade a husband for a "Friend of the Court" who is willing to share in stripping assets and influence from the father.

Re: Mitch Albom: When did fathers become expendable?
I'm listening to a book from audible. It's called Cop Town by Karen Slaughter. It's set in 1974 and it's about these really sexist and racist men in Atlanta, Georgia.

Now, I don't think the men need to go. I think we need the men. But, I don't think men acting the way they act in this book-and I remember them acting like that too-was helpful. There was a lot of abuse of women, children and different people going on in the recent past.

So, I think men still need to be men, but they need to be careful how they treat others.

We see it on here everyday. Men starting threads just to abuse women and cut them down sexually. That kind of thing is stupid, immature and not worthy of being called human.

That being said, I do think that Father's are important and I wish that they weren't being slammed to death. I just think they need to treat women and minorities better than they did in the past. That crap wasn't funny.
