It rival a cardboard box since it has NO FRAMEWORK! These idiots and their dumb-ass rules. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 59662400 To your point... They allow "play structures" if you saw this "library" it's about 2'x3'x1' deep. It's attached to what looks like what used to be a bar stool. The whole thing stands about 4 and a half feet tall. It's tiny. One of the council members lives down the street from me. I'm about to call code enforcement and have her take down her basketball goal. |

(AP)-- A widespread trend of sharing books through small homemade structures has been shut down in a Kansas City suburb. However, Leawood officials say they will reconsider the decision to tell a 9-year-old boy to remove his ``Little Free Library'' from his family's front yard. Anonymous Coward User ID: 59629663 United States 06/26/2014 11:40 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Spencer Collins, 9, loves to read. The idea of sharing his love of books with his neighbors thrills him. So with the help of his parents, he set up a Little Free Library in their yard in Leawood, Kansas. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 58389873 But the town of Leawood decided the birdhouse-sized library was an illegal structure and the family was ordered to remove it. The family moved the Little Free Library into their garage. But they are looking to take the issue with City Hall, reported ABC affiliate KMBC. The little library, which was made by the boy’s grandfather, was capable of holding a few books. Like the Little Free Libraries across the country, it had a “take a book, leave a book” note taped on its door. The bookshelf sat next to a bench on the family's front yard, which was intended to provide a spot for readers to enjoy their books. "When we got home from vacation, there was a letter from the city of Leawood saying that it was in code violation and it needed to be down by the 19th or we would receive a citation," Spencer's mother, Sarah Collins told KMBC. The City of Leawood bans buildings that aren't attached to homes. Since the library was a free standing structure in the family's front yard, it was considered illegal. The city has received two complaints regarding the library, according to Richard Coleman, Leawood's director of community development. Who in their right mind would complain? Who? |

No one complains...it's a good way to get rid of books I read (I devour them like candy), get some new ones and kind of cover my small town's north end. Hell, even my local library works with me when I get their library books turned in to my little station. Some people don't like it (the business has had complaints), but it gets a lot of books in and out of it. |

Leawood is the most expensive suburb of Kansas City. Pretty much the entire town is a Home Owners association. The structure is against Leawood code plain and simple. While I personally think its silly, this family should have known better than to place that in their front yard in Leawood of all places. |
