The local argument is that the locals of Leawood are paying very high taxes to live there in the expensive suburb knowing full well the city has a ton of codes and ordinances like a Homeowners Association. Their tax money built a 5 million dollar libary and that is where many believe the books belong.

Its not the kid! The kid has been paraded around on the media for sympathy AFTER they were forced to take it down. Mom and Dad did built it and ran it.

Reading is good on principle, you get people started reading comic books and romances, you never know where they'll end up.

The most serious reader I ever knew started out on comic books and science fiction, as an adult he would read tome upon tome of hard core military history for fun.

As long as people are reading books, there's at least some hope, no matter what the books are.

When kids are starting out reading, you want them to learn that reading is something to do, the content is not that important. When they're older they'll probably start reading highbrow stuff that would meet your approval, if it's in the pile along with everything else.

Trash can be good, I've read my share of it, and my share of classic literature, and my share of history and nonfiction and technical stuff.

Of all the things to be against in this world, books would be one of the more ridiculous things to get all critical about.
